Excuse me, but have you ever been to Warren? I lived there for 7 years, and I assure you, I never felt unsafe. My daughter graduated from Harding, never had any trouble whatsoever. Is there a bad side of town? Yep. But doesn't every city have one? If you aren't involved in illegal activity, you'll be just fine.

Did I say I had? I was simply giving Sheena another tool to use. She's had a pretty rough time lately and I just thought she'd want any info she could get to make sure her next move was 100% the right one. Sorry your skin is so thin.

history: The Arms Museum in Youngstown, Sutliff Museum, Warren, Ohio. Operated by the Warren Library Association at the Warren Public Library, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens About, National Packard Museum - Warren Ohio, Trumbull County Historical Society home page, Youngstown | ohiohistory.org

I found some cute antique places/furniture consignment places around here. I hear the Roger Flea Market has some good stuff.

I don't know about camping, but I know a lot of people around here do it. Cook's Forest comes to mind over in Pa.

There are a lot of Italian places around. I'll link some of my favorite places or places that have a good rep. BTW, we like to eat local.............

No in Warren. There is 2 Trader Joe's in Cleveland. One on East side and one on West side. So you will be able go in this one on East side.
Warren doesnt look like nice place but I dont know how is living there. Housing should be very cheep.

I looked up the Ghost Walk and the link to the paranormal society and it lists as one of the haunted places - "a private residence on Central Parkway" ...hmmm any one know anything about it?

SigmaCTS, EXACTLY what I was thinking! I LOVE that kind of stuff and I owned a hunted house one! They seem to attract me.

For what it's worth, when I was inside I dis not feel anything negative whatsoever. And I've literally RUN out of a house where a grizzly murder took place. But that one felt peaceful.

I'm dying to know what house it is though!

Welcome to the area!! Although the city of Warren can seem depressing and some issues with their city counsel, it can be a great place to call home. What side of town did you choose to live? NE side near the golf course?!

Warren is not as bad as it may seem, but be prepared for not-so good news sometimes. The SW, SE or parts of the NW side of town have some issues. Warren has recently seen an uptick with crime, specifically on the SW and SE sides of town. The NE side of town is still very nice and is where I grew up. There are a lot of nice homes and neighborhoods still around. Though, no town is "perfect."

The city also has an issue with blight and abandoned homes, specifically on the SE, SW and NW sides of town. Although the city and county are going to begin removing these homes. There is a presence of drug activity, and hopefully by knocking down these homes that these drug losers use will force them to go elsewhere or finally get caught.

The job situation is not so good either, especially with RG Steel shutting down not too long ago. Although this shale industry is supposed to be moving into the area, promising to bring jobs with it. We are just starting to see the tip of the iceberg and hopefully good changes to come in the next 2 or 3 years. Some people in the area who use/abuse the system can easily have a job, but seem to be too lazy to actually go get one. It is unfortunate that some people would rather run drugs instead of being a stand-up citizen in the community and actually go get a real job. But, if they can make $1000 or $2000 per week dealing drugs, then why go get a real job that pays less?! LOL.

I did not intend to burden you with this negative talk about Warren, but that city drives me crazy sometimes.....

If you can look past with what goes on in the city, it's actually a nice place to live with a lot to do in the area. But some sides of town are out right ridiculous and I just stay away.

With grocery stores, Giant Eagle does dominate the area; although there are others to choose from too.
Super Walmart - off Rt. 5 in Cortland, OH.
-I don't like Walmart, so I don't shop here. I find their groceries to be just as expensive as Giant Eagle. I suppose if you are a coupon clipper, you can find savings at both Giant Eagle or Walmart.
Giant Eagle offers fuel perks when you make a purchase at their store. But again, I find myself spending a lot of $$ for not so many groceries.
Sparkle Markets.
-There are a few in the area. There is still one in the Kmart plaza on Parkman Road. 1 in Cortland and 1 in Champion.
Aldi's
-One of my favorite places to shop for groceries. It's not fancy like Giant Eagle or Walmart, but I can surely stretch my dollar a lot more at this store. My wife and I just went shopping yesterday and bought a cart full of groceries for $85. Mostly household staples like bread, milk ($1.99/gal!!) and some frozen foods. We left with a lot of goodies for $85.......You bag your own groceries, so I recommend buying the re-useable frozen food bags and re-useable grocery bags. They carry mostly private label brands and sometimes get the "name-brand" items in on special buys. The savings are absolutely worth it!!! They do not take coupons. You can only pay with cash or debit card. No credit cards or checks accepted. So you better know your debit card PIN number...LOL Costs $0.25 for a grocery cart....you get the quarter back when you return the cart back to the store. LOL. Interesting setup for sure, but absolutely worth it.
Marc's-Niles, OH
-A lot of people seem to like this store. I've never been in there before, but people seem to like the prices. Have heard they carry fresh produce at great prices.
Save-A-Lot (Great East plaza near the Eastwood Mall).
Have heard that this place has great prices too. Though I have not been to this store to find out.
Super K-Mart
Reminds me of Walmart, so I don't go.
Dollar General/Dollar General Market
Cleaning supplies are more affordable here than at other grocers. They just opened a Dollar General Market in Rt 422 in Niles. It's a full blown grocery store. Haven't been in to see whats up or what pricing is like.

If you're a smart shopper, watch the sales ads to see where you can get the best deal. The Tribune Chronicle or Vindicator will give you sales ads on Sundays.
