Hilliard has changed quite a bit in the last 14 yrs. 3 high schools now, and a lot more people. No small town feel at all.

Wait, your job is in Columbus and you're thinking of commuting there from Huron? Or are you planning to change jobs if you move there?

or from Lakewood? Um, no. Scratch that right now....

There are a lot of small towns MUCH closer to the capitol.

I live in Hilliard and like it a lot, but it is definitely suburban now. Brown Township (adjacent to Hilliard), still has somewhat of a semirural feel.

Default Huron?

If your relocating for a job in Columbus I would move closer to Huron, unless you have to live in Huron. I've liven in Huron for almost a year and enjoy it. Like the other posters have stated, I appreciate the diversity.

Hi Julie,

I grew up in Sandusky and also lived in Southern CA (San Diego County) for 20 years. Returned to Ohio and settled in Huron 13 years ago. I got tired of the traffic and density of population in Southern CA. So I understand your need to return to your roots and that small town feeling. I lived in Columbus for one year, many years ago. I hated it because I missed Lake Erie. There is the Olentangy River in Columbus and a couple of smaller lakes outside of town but if you want those cool lake breezes in the summer, you won't find it there. It is hot and humid in the summer months.

Lakewood has a lot to offer in restaurants and bars, but it is a city. If you want that small town feel, you will find it in Erie County. The great thing about this area is that you don't have to live in the city of Huron. You could also live in Huron township, Vermilion or Milan. All are within a 10 mile radius and the traffic is minimal 9 months of the year. You get more in the summer with Cedar Point but I'm sure you remember that.

I live in Huron township on the east side of town. Downtown Cleveland is a 50 minute drive. So is Cleveland airport. It's easy to jump on Rt. 2 and be anywhere fast. This area still has a lot of wide-open spaces. You can get on a bicycle and ride 10 minutes and be in the country. It's a great place to be. Thanks!

I wouldn't call Hilliard a "small town feel" really. It is more of a suburban feel these days. Especially as you get closer to the Columbus city limits it feels more like a "mega burb."

Yes parts of western Hilliard do feel less developed and more rural, but I wouldn't call Hilliard a small town. If you're looking for that you would need to go a little further out, from Columbus, these days.

I'll add that Columbus has changed very much in the last 10-15 yrs and if it's been longer than that when you lived there it could be a slight shock.

I am hoping to move back to Ohio, and Erie County is my first choice.
