I hope that you get more responses than just mine, because mine is going to be severely limited, but I live about 20 minutes from Portage Lakes, and all I know about houses on the lake is that the older houses were purchased and demolished by people who have $$$ to spend. The older houses were bought for a pretty penny, demolished, and gorgeous, multi-million dollar homes have been built to replace the older ones. This is not to say that there aren't other homes (besides the multi-million dollar homes there), but I want you to know what's out there. As far as shopping, Portage Lakes is not Rodeo Drive by any stretch of the imagination, in fact, I know nothing out that way that resembles a shopper's mecca. I mean there are grocery stores, and your every day run-of-the mill stores around. For serious shopping, there are malls, outlet malls, etc. within driving distance.

Again, I hope that someone who actually lives in the area can provide more info; this is my general opinion of the area as far as what you're looking for.

Thanks for your info. What I have been finding out is that the houses run from 250,000.00 to 1.6 million. What I like to find out is why the huge difference. Is there better spot of the lake to live than others. How far is tha malls from there. Would I have to drive fewer than 30 minutes.

Hi, here's a link to Wikpedia regarding Portgage Lakes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portage_Lakes,_Ohio

It might be a good idea to drive down to the area and spend a few days/nights. It is a safe, middle-of-the-road area, at least you would get a "feel" for the area, see if the lakes are what you envision. Do it soon before it gets cold. Wishing you the best in your move.
