Question Job transfering to Elkton OH area, where should we live?

Hi. We are being transferred to Elkton Ohio area. I would appreciate any suggestions and information on good communities to live in. What are areas to avoid? What your opinions on the people are. Are they nice, mean, liberal, conservative? What do you all think of the schools, the local government, culture? I have to be honest and say the only thing I know about Ohio is from the Drew Carey Show. Thanks in advance for your help.

We are all just like Drew Carey. We play pool in our backyards with our dufus buddies, and live for drinking beer. You're going to love it here.

Seriously, The only thing I know about Elkton is that there is a prison there. When somebody says they are being transfered to Elkton, it means they are either a guard or an inmate. It's a very rural area in Columbiana County. The two closest and best school districts, are Columbiana Local, and Crestview Local.

I drove home from work on one eye this morning, so I really need to go to bed. I'll give more details on the area when I get up later today.

Cool cause I have dufus buddies, I play pool and I love beer. Yeah it's the prison and thankfully he's not an inmate but at times feels like one. I really appreciate you responding and am thankful OH people have a sense of humor.

I'm more awake now. Let's start with housing and schools. Elkton doesn't really exist. It's just a name on a map. That's common around here. The name of a town in the middle of a township at an intersection is how I would describe it. This is what Wikipedia says about it...... not much. Elkton, Ohio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The best way to search for housing is by school district. I believe that it's actually in the Beaver Local School district. Columbiana County is rural with a few small towns that remind you of 1950. There is lots of open land and wooded areas. I would stay away from Lisbon schools. They are not terrible, they just don't have much to offer. As I said before, Columbiana, and Crestview are the best bets in the immediate area of Elkton.
Just to the North is the South Range district, It beats the other two hands down, but hey, I'm biased.

The people are hard working, down to Earth, blue collar types. They are more conservative than anything, but vote Democrat because that is how their Father, and Grandfather voted. Don't get me started on that. There are several Mennonite farms around here. They stick to themselves, but you see them in the stores a lot. When you walk by somebody in a store, make eye contact and say hello. We are friendly like that.

I was thinking that the only spa around here was Casal's. When I looked up the spelling in the phone book, I found a few others too. They are in the Canfield / Boardman area. That is only 10 miles North of the Columbiana, Mahoning County border.
This is the website for Casal's Casal's De Spa & Salon

There is also this, but I'm not really sure about it. http://www.rusticretreatspa.com/ (broken link)

Your basic everyday shopping can be done in nearby Salem. You can also drive up to Boardman and see the world's largest strip mall. It's about 10 long.
Check out the local papers. www.morningjournal (broken link) news.com or wwwvindy.com

So much info, such little time. What else would you like to know?

I forgot to mention that the City of Salem, and the Village of Columbiana have a 1% wage tax on top of the State income tax. Those of us in the outer areas do not pay that tax. We are known as unincorporated areas.

Default Elkton Ohio

Hello! Not sure if you will still be reading these posts or not! I was born and raised in PA, moved here almost 18 years ago! I have lived 5 minutes from Elkton for 14 of those years and I will honestly say, I love it! After living in PA, and meeting people here and just seeing what goes on, wow at the difference! Ohio has some of the nicest people I have met! I never realized how rude and ingnorant different places can be until moving here!

We have all three of our daughters in the Beaver Local School District. I like the school alot! No real complaint! The areas for this district are, West Point, Rogers, Elkton, some of Calcutta, and some with a mailing address of Lisbon. I am one of those, Lisbon.

I would recommend B.L.S.D. we really have had no major issues that cause any great concern! WE are not a large school and therefore I think it is a milder school, if those are the right words! Some of the surrounding schools tend to have alot of issues that seem to be getting out of hand. Lisbon, East Liverpool, Crestview and East Palestine seem to be the worst in the close area.

Recently losing our home and the entire contents and pets to an early morning fire and our family of 5 nearly not making it out ourselves, was very hard. BUT our school district stepped in and were all so wonderful! Our children did not go back to school with out continual hugs and love from all the teachers, day after day, into months after the fire they would come home with bags of goodies for them or little things from some child they had never met in their school just wanting to show they cared! It is truely a family based district.

Taxes are basicly the same every where! I know that some of the other districts taxes are much higher. Columbiana for certain~! (new school)

I do not know anything to the area you will be leaving and it would have to be hard to leave. I can say I love Ohio! Born and raised PA girl and would not likely ever return there! This is home and feels like I have been here all my life!

As for the prision? Don't even realize its there unless we drive past it~! Believe me, not every one works there or resides there!!

Drew Carey?? Don't know too much of him to really feel a tie to the man ebing and Ohioan!

Hopefully by now you are moved in and have found a nice home and area to live! I still wanted to post, even if you have settled in. Maybe someone else may need to hear of Ohio too!

Good luck to ya!
