Dan, you might find some pictures if you go to Tribune-Chronicle and click the banner at the top that says C-U. There you will find pics taken by the paper and members of the community, it's pretty cool actually.
Things to do:
well, mosquito lake is nearby, so you can camp, fish and boat.
Niles has minor league baseball (Mahoning Valley Scrappers, Short Season A)
Youngstown has minor league hockey, af2 football, a playhouse, concerts, etc
Chevrolet Centre (i just saw TSO there and it was awesome!) This is only 20 minutes away!
there is also a bike trail nearby, shopping, restaurants (good italian food), etc.
I know of a cigar shop on elm rd. in cortland (maybe 10- 15 minutes from the west side). There is also one called Havana House near the eastwood mall in niles, next to Dick's.
Also, in case you didn't know, many area residents make the hour drive to either cleveland or pittsburgh to see concerts, shows and professional sports. In fact, last night i was in cleveland for both the browns game and the Bruce Springsteen concert. Not bad for an hour drive.
Anymore questions just ask.
Cort

Look into the Southington area if you like it rural. I think it's one of the best places in NE Ohio.

I hope you really take your time and be sure before you move to Warren. I thought I was sure that I would like it there, but I didn't. I went every weekend, met my neighbors, found out as much info as I could before I moved there. I thought it was a nice place to live, at first. I bought a house, lived there for a few months, now I live in Sheffield Lake. My family and I hated it there. The public schools are bad, finding the foods we eat was hard, and there was alot of racism towards us- we are Puerto Rican. Another thing I didn't like was, everytime I went somewhere, there was someone asking for money. Maybe it will work out for you....Good Luck.

Fun things to do in Warren:
1. Observe your neighbors loose their homes because they lost their jobs.
2. Go on sightseeing tours of the closed up factories of a time gone by.
3. Play chicken with the state highway patrol as they endlessly cite people traveling 65 mph on the highway... the Warren highway strangely limited to 55 mph
4. Get tazered by city police officers who are too lazy to use good old fashioned police tactics.
5. People who try crack cocaine usually love it!
6. Scrape your windshield, shovel your sidewalk, salt your driveway.
7. Pay high taxes for all the good government services you benefit from.
8. Last but not least... Practicing at the firing range. I recommend carrying a firearm.

dawnie,
i used to work in Lorain right next to Sheffield lake and back in the 70's Lorain had the largest p.r. pop. next to NYC in America. is it still that way today? if it is its funny how we have all been taught(and forced )to live with each other be it white /black/or Hispanic, but the end result is black, white, and Hispanic people when given a choice seem to over whelming chose to live with people like themselves....me its never been an issue my only issue is, is my neighbor legal? whether its citizenship, drug pushing,or selling stolen cars, i want honest law abiding neighbors not black, white, or Hispanic

Lorain has a large Hispanic population. I was actually born and raised in Lorain. Lorain is going downhill now.

dan, have you made your move yet? if so hows it going? i'm originally from Warren and very proud of that fact. my family whats left still live a block away from Harding. what mikie posted is not correct, yes there are bad parts of town, but then there are really nice parts of town as well. Warren is very rich in tradition the only problem is young people are leaving in droves, which is sad. i'd like to see nothing more than Warren rebound. its very unlikely due to lack of jobs. the unions are very demanding and companies don't want to get involved in that as they don't have to worry about it in other parts of the country. one thing about warren you won't find anywhere else is the food. great eating places that are very original are the hot dog shoppe, the sunrise, the buena vista and enzos just to name a few. won't find food like that anywhere else in the world. believe me i've tried.

Ahhhh......what Mike posted about Warren is as real as it gets in Warren.
Oh ya, another positive of living in Warren, if you wish to do ANY kind of work to your home in Warren you MUST go downtown and pay for a permit, for simple things like hanging a screen door on the front of your house, painting something outside ect. The city is crying for money and so is the county! Property Taxes just got raised and will probably get raised again to support the shrinking population and growing government agencies that the shrinking City and County seem to find a deed to have.
Any house sold outside city limits and has a septic system, plan on spending ~$15K to upgrade it. ALL septic systems in Trumbull County MUST be upgraded if older than about 3-5 years depending on the design. Another fine display of local corrupt politics hurting for money and robbing the already poor in the area when trying to upgrade their lives by moving to a better home. Nothing like good ol legal extortion.......
What a joke this area is..............My wife just asked me the other day why everyone in this area is in such a bad mood all the time. Refer to Mikes post for the answer. This area is in a downward spiral and the bottom is not in sight. When Packard Electric closes up shop for good by 2012 and GM allocates cars somewhere else other than Lordstown around the same time, then I think we will see the bottom. The writing is on the wall, pay attention to it!
