This map shows internet speeds by county. Ohio is clearly lagging behind. This is bad for business as well as individuals. What can be done to improve this? Does our state government need to invest more in internet infrastructure?

Man looking at that map, I am quite glad I live on campus and no longer have to deal with the likes of Time Warner. *hugs his high speed University Internet*

Ohio is about average (as that map clearly shows). Also, does that map show what residential customers purchase or what it truly available? For instance, I highly doubt the UP of Michigan has better comm service than, well, anyone.

My mid-upper tier service in the south suburbs of Cleveland affords me a healthy 29.1 Mbps download and 4.2 Mbps upload speed. According to that map, I have top end service.

According to the following article, it appears that OH does quite well when considering population density:

As per the usual, it all depends on how you look at the statistics relative to the control.

Seems fine to me in Cincy. Im getting 50 mbps with time warner. It does make you wonder how a low density state like Oregon can have such a wide spread high speed network, yet Ohio is so far behind with 3 times the population.

It isn't "so far behind." It isn't even behind. The map can be interpreted several different ways. When it's looked at the way it should be -- by service speed per population density -- Ohio does just fine. I have access to 150 Mbps if I want it. But, I have found that 25-30 Mbps is more than adequate for what I need it for. Its fast enough to stream high quality video and to download a GB of data in less than a half hour (often much less). How is that worse than anywhere else. The bottom line is that the closer you live to a bigger city, the better your service will likely be. I believe the service per density map clearly shows this.
