Relocating to Ohio....Anyone from HARTVILLE?
Is any of you great folks from or knowledgable about Hartville. It seems like a great place to relocate but we dont know much about it. We love the country and love the AMISH culture. I think there is plenty of both there...but it seems I can only find limited knowledge on the internet on that area! Hubby realy likes the proxomity to AKRON/ CANTON I love the small town appeal it seems like it could bring I noticed it said the median household income was 62K.. I was very suprised???

i wouldnt have any worries about moving there other than cresting a hill and rear ending a buggy! good amish resturaunts too!!

You'd love it...
You guys would absolutely LOVE Hartville. It sounds like just what you're looking for. I have visited there a few times because my aunt and uncle live there. He loves it and doesn't ever want to move, but she doesn't really like the very "country" feeling that it has...aka she's not a big fan of well water! The area is nice...lots of farms.
I can't really tell you too much about it though, as I have never lived there and it never interested me enough to want to research it. But, hey, to each his own, right? The nice thing about it, like your husband said, is that it is very close to Akron. That way you can rely on Akron for jobs, entertainment, shopping, etc.

thanks!
HAS...Thanks for the info. Can you all tell me much about Akron vs. Canton ( size, things to do, etc) I think Hartville is a little closer to Akron but I have never been to Akron, and have only passed through Canton. What is the population?

^ Akron is a much bigger city with around 212,000. Canton has about 85,000. The Akron metro has about 800,000, while the Canton metro is about to hit the 500,000 mark. I personally like Akron much better because it has a lot more of a choice in suburbs to live in. All of them are great areas that are really booming. Also due to the fact that Akron is a bigger city you have more to do. Although both downtown Akron and Canton are booming. Both cities are experiencing sprawl just like the rest of the nation. The suburbs of Akron are worth checking out.

Hartville Rules!
I was born and raised in Hartville.
First of all, it's insanely pretty there. Picturesque amish farms, green rolling hills and tons of golfing along with top tier public schools, cheap housing, a very good demographic and proximity to Cleve/Ak-Can should make it a no brainer.
Hartville is also a top producing agricultural region. Unfortunately the black "muck" is a mix of soil, sand and water and makes many homes and other structures in Lake Township not so straight standing after time. My aunt has had her raised ranch - literally raised - every five years since 1970. It is apparently sitting on a bed of quicksand. Also, Hartville is still on well water and that can be an objection to some. A great filtration system with bottled water cures all that though. Fresh, huge produce such as fresh tomatoes and sweet corn is plentiful on Swamp Road in August.
It takes ten minutes to North Canton *shopping*, twenty to downtown Canton, and about the same to downtown Akron. Honestly, Canton is the better of the two, albeit, Akron's larger. We were always "Canton-goers".
Lake's football team is killer - and the folks there are big Blue Streak fans. Be ready.
Later tater!

err.. I don't know how to start this but.. I was wondering if anyone who grew up in Hartville knows a bit about the history of Hartville.. or knows some places?
I've got a few questions; I was wondering is there a sting or stringway 86 there?, And is there something with holland in it?.. or something is called with Holland.. I don't know.
And uhm, is there a tree with like carved names on it?.. and something with powerlines.. are those there a lot?. and a rope factory?.. or a chemical factory.. is that there? or was that there?
Is there some piece of land that's like long, odd and had a cemitery but that is now cleaned up?..
Wow, that are a lot questions.. I hope someone knows these things, or a little bit! Thanks in advance!
Sorry if this sounds so strange.. I just hope someone knows..

I grew up in N. Canton which is very close to Hartville. Hartville isn't as small town as it used to be. It used to be very rural and had a large Mennonite population. Lots of new building in that area. Some parts of it is still quaint.

Hartville resident for 30 yrs
Before you move, some things to consider.
Taxes are very high for Ohio. Approx $1400/half. The schools take 70%
We do not have any Amish left, only Mennonites [drive cars]. To find an active Amish community you have to go to Millersburgh approx 40 miles south. The economy sucks as we have no manufacturing base except one, and that is a pipe processor.
On the good side housing is cheap, rent is cheap, food is modest, and the people are friendly

A little exaggerating being done on those metro sizes:
Akron MSA is just under 700,000
Canton-Massillon MSA is slightly over 400,000.
And to say that they are areas that are really 'booming' is not an accuate statement, not sure how if you've been to these areas in a while, but they haven't been booming for a while now, NE Ohio in general has been in it's own recession for about a decade w/very little growth at all. And to say Canton's downtown is booming is hilarious, I think this poster might have last been to downtown Canton in the 1960s. While I wish it were doing better, the truth is, it's not and is a ghost town many nights.
As for Hartville, it's not a bad little town, but as other posters have mentioned, no Amish any more, there are some in Wayne Co., but the majority our in the Holmes Co. area.
