Outside of its small downtown, it's a nice town. Good older neighborhoods. The are depened heavily on steel and related industry. It was never large enough to be economically diverse and has suffered for decades as industry has died (the whole upper Ohio Valley through Wheeling).

If you don't mind commuting to work to as far as downtown Pgh - or more realistically, the Parkway West, then it's certainly a cheaper place to live that is safe.

i was told that the menthol cigarette was invented in Mingo jct?
Dean was from Steubenville. You might be thinking of the one hit wonder band, Wild Cherry (of "Play that Funky Music" fame)

Hello

My sister & her husband recently attended the Dean Martin festival in your area. She mentioned that they saw a shop that sells the toy peddle cars for children in your town but did not have time to stop there. They were very disappointed that time did not allow for them to look for something for their 16 month old little boy.

I will be driving across country this coming week and will make the stop in Steubenville if I can find where this shop is located? I would like to look into getting a peddle car for this nephew as he is my Godson as well.

Since you are a lifetime resident I thought that maybe you might be able to assist me with this request? Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
bonamanzi

Right on, my father-in-law is from there, and he often speaks of how it used to be booming in the 50s & 60s growing up there, and how it has really gone down-hill since due to the steel industry demise there and in nearby Weirton, WV. Think the Ytown analogy is an accurate one.

Also, the Wal*Mart distribution center has been operating for a few years now to the poster who questioned that, it's outside of the city on Rt. 43 near US-22.

The walmart center is a decent paying job, and it would only take 10 minutes to drive there from pretty much anywhere in steubenville.

That would be a very good comparison. Only Youngstown has Boardman, where as Steubenville doesn't have anything. At least they are fairly close to Cabela's.
