Does anyone know where the nearest one might be?

Kent State Salem offers a medical billing certificate.

BTW, you can keep asking questions about Salem in the same thread, instead of creating a new thread for each question. It'll keep the board a little less cluttered.

Okay, next question: how many hospitals/medical facilities are there in the general area of Salem?

There's Salem Regional Medical Center. That's the only one I know of in Salem. Like I said in one of your other threads, it is a small town of around 12,000 people, so one is all they really need.

Alliance is about 20 minutes west, and they have a regional hospital. Boardman is about 20 minutes NE, and they have a hospital and a children's hospital. Youngstown, which is just north of Boardman and about 30 minutes from Salem has two hospitals as well.

Not to discourage you, but I just moved from Ohio in August of 2013. Be sure there aren't long-term hiring freezes at the hospitals where you plan to work. Also understand the impact of the ICD-10 code sets and what effect that will have on you as a student.

I'm *not* saying either is a bad idea. Just be aware that Ohio is entering into a fairly deep recession and the ICD-10 issues have the potential to bankrupt many of the smaller medical offices. Whether it actually *will* is an active debate.

When I left, Columbus was the bright spot for open hospital positions.

I'm not sure if I'm going to be moving there, my boyfriend interviewed with CMI Industries but hasn't yet gotten an offer.
