If you do decide to move to Ohio you would probably like Forest Park, Ohio. Many cultural/ethnic groups live in this city. There are many other areas in and around Cincinnati where you would be welcomed as well.
Ohio does not have the jobs, so this is why we continue to have people who graduate from our colleges and leave. A better educated workforce is definitely needed.

Default so true

That is so true. Look at these kids killing people. Isn't that crazy. It is a shane that people hear are like that about color. After all this is the north.

I love my Oxford, but "hippy college town" is nowhere near the best way to describe it. A hippie college town would imply a very counter-culture and diverse environment. There is a reason we call Oxford "the Bubble." There is extremely low diversity, both in ethnicity and demographics. 49% of our students come from families above the $150,000 earnings mark, and the rest are not far behind. Usually, the most ethnic diversity I will see in a semester is one or two people in my classes whose parents were born abroad and came here for med school. This doesn't mean there is racial prejudice in Oxford, just that it is an issue we are not forced to deal with.

I can't comment on Yellow Springs (except to say that it's where Dave Chappelle lives), but Oberlin does fit the bill of what you are describing.

I am in the Cleveland area, however my best friend lives in Roswell GA. Honestly, if I could move there I would. It is a beautiful city with great schools and it is diverse city.

Check it out...I think you will be impressed.

hi...don't listen to all the negative comments above....we have an excellent school system here and your child would be welcomed with open arms...we have a community that also would welcome you...we are a small community that is really more of a country like setting rather than city and that is where the problems are the cities....we have very little problems here and i am confidnet you would love it....we are getting ready to sell our home (for health reasons) and have a nice brick ranch on a beautiful acre of land at the end of a cul-de-sac. if you are at all interested please contact me .....oh sorry, we are in New Franklin, aka Manchester, in the Portage Lakes, just south of Akron and we are close to everything....good luck and God Bless..

I am African American, but my daughter is half Hispanic.

I currently live in Pennsylvania, where I have lived all of my life and I want a change. I would love to show my children something different, but I don't want to struggle. I read an article some weeks ago, about an area called Groesbeck, Ohio (it's suppose to be about 7 miles from Cinn.). I am not sure if I spelled that right, but if you know what I am talking about please help me.

But in general, I am open to knowing about family oriented cities, and communities in Ohio, where my children can receive a good-excellent education, without having to resort to private schooling.

Please help!

Any information is greatly appreciated. Also, any informative websites would be great as well.

Thanks again!
I would not recommend moving to Ohio. I lived there forty years and just moved to Virginia Beach. While I am aware everyone has personal preferences in my opinion this area totally blows Ohio away. The biggest reason I left was I could not take the weather anymore. It was so depressing with the winters. There is definitely some beautiful weather in the summer but those days are far and few and even then I was dreading the return of winter. I did not even want to leave my house from December through March. It was an ordeal. Last winter it got as low at 7 degrees F and that is when I told my husband we are getting the heck out of this place. I like to be able to go outdoors all year round and do not enjoy having to be bound up like a mummy in winter clothing for at least 4 months per year. You also had to drive far to get places unless you live in a bigger city and in the last 5 years the traffic has gotten significantly worse and it was frustrating. As far as the people, I think there are friendly and unfriendly wherever you go. I was in Ohio for so long that it wasn't until I moved here that I could see distinct differences in the culture. Here in Virginia Beach the GENERAL culture is much more open minded, people are more educated. It is more racially diverse. There is more acceptance of different cultures blended together. There is a large hispanic community here too. My neighbors came from Ecuador and we have met some of their friends. There was not the hispanic culture in northeast Ohio that there is here. Being a very fit person too I can't help but notice there are significantly less out of shape, overweight people here. Although I'm not surprised because it was a challenge to stay motivated to be fit when I was basically stuck inside during those terrible winters back in Ohio. A treadmill gets boring quick and to drive to the gym you still have to go out and drive in the crappy snow. I am so glad I moved here and I will never go back. The weather is very hot in the summer and in the winter you can still go outside with a light jacket. You still have all four seasons. The beach is awesome it is just crowded in the summer. The public schools are awesome here too. I just wanted to give my view and I know everyone has theirs. I know some people like cold weather and I guess if you like sports you'd like Ohio too. Im not a big sports teams finatic and could never understand all the football hype that permeated the general culture there. But if weather, schools, cultural diversity are important think hard before moving to Ohio. You might want to check out this area--Hampton Roads where I am at.
