Default Possible Relocation to Ohio!

What are Ohio's best places to live? I am planning to relocate in June of 2008, and so far I am only interested in Chapel Hill-Carrboro North Carolina. I would love to consider other places, but my top concerns are education, work, crime, affordable housing, and resources for the Hispanic community. I am African American, but my daughter is half Hispanic.

I currently live in Pennsylvania, where I have lived all of my life and I want a change. I would love to show my children something different, but I don't want to struggle. I read an article some weeks ago, about an area called Groesbeck, Ohio (it's suppose to be about 7 miles from Cinn.). I am not sure if I spelled that right, but if you know what I am talking about please help me.

But in general, I am open to knowing about family oriented cities, and communities in Ohio, where my children can receive a good-excellent education, without having to resort to private schooling.

Please help!

Any information is greatly appreciated. Also, any informative websites would be great as well.

Thanks again!

For the Cincinnati area, you would probably be better off in suburbs such as West Chester, Blue Ash, Mason/Montgomery for family friendly areas and decent schools. I can't help you much with resouces for Hispanics. I just found this website CincyLatino.com -Celebrating Latino Arts & Culture! - Web Links. Good luck!

Default Ohio Sucks

This is what I think. I live in a small town called Newark. It is about 30 miles east of columbus. I hate this place. Do not move here or columbus. There are no jobs and the weather is awful. One good thing is that the cost of living is low but jobs pay low too. At least Newark is a safe place but you will be bored out of your mind. We are moving in a couple of months. make sure you do plenty of research before you move to Ohio.

I would recommend buying a house on the south side of Youngstown, in the Indianola and Hillman area. Housing there is relatively inexpensive, the neighborhoods have charm, and Mill Creek Park is nearby! The area as a whole is on the upswing and you don't have to travel far to for any amenities. Besides that, the Youngstown city schools are producing only the best academic results!

I m also from newark, theyre right low income, some nice places to live, but for the most part boring, columbus is a good place for jobs IF you have a trade or degree then you can make good money, but Im moving south to georgia to get away from the crappy weather. In my opinion New Albany is nice, close to some good jobs too.

Default newark

We might know each other since this is a small town. Georgia would be nice. We are hoping to move to south carolina in march.

You're black, your child is half hispanic, and you wanna move to Ohio??? Are you serious???

Ohio is proving itself to be "North Alabama" when it comes to issues of diversity. There's a huge brain drain taking place here and the bigots are taking over the state.

If I were you I could steer clear of metro Cincinnati, and steer clear of towns outside of metro Cleveland and Columbus.

Default issue of color

I am african american and my children are half white. What's wrong with that. There is nothing wrong with that. Cleveland does not interracial couples. My husband who is white, and I walked into a Kmart and the black people in there looked at us like we were crazy. do not go there. At least in Newark is not that way. Do you want a laid back town or a bigger city? North Carolina might be for you.

There's nothing wrong at all with being black, white, biracial or whatever... Its just that not everyone in Ohio deals with these issues very well. Unless you're in an urban /suburban setting or a small hippy college town like Oxford, Yellow Springs, Oberlin... You're not necessary moving into friendly territory if you're non-white. You're dealing with large numbers of uneducated people when you venture into those small towns.

SAD BUT TRUE UNFORTUNATELY.

I hear Shaker Heights is very integrated btw.
