Good article about everything this bizarro corner of the state has to offer:

Giraffes, adult novelties, Jesus statue at most fascinating exit | www.mydaytondailynews.com

For those of you who are unaware, it includes:

- A high-end Hustler porn store

- Two gaudy flea markets

- A giant outlet mall, complete with a mock-up of Cincinnati's Union Terminal

- A statue which replaced a statue of Jesus that was struck by lightning and burned
Old

Facing God's wrath:

Rebuilt

- A large racino

- A nearby air freshener (AK Steel)

- A couple prisons (don't pick up hitch hikers)

- And to top it off, a vacant amusement park

(this I wish could re-open)

I know I wrote this tongue-in-cheek, but if you are in the area Monroe is worth a stop!

They used to have a strip club called Bristols, the Stony Ridge bar used to be entertaining plus they have a gay bar that has drag shows.

Haha yes there was!

I think the rumor was Larry Flynt bought Bristols after it closed so he could keep te lands sexually oriented business zoning. That way he could use it if he wanted to expand into putting a strip club on site.

And that gay bar! Western-themed? And it's kinda hidden in Monroe? Bizarre stuff in that town, very bizarre stuff.

It did not seem to have any theme to it, even though it is called the "Old Street Saloon" it's like cheers for queers, it's fairly big and even though it's not on a main street it's just off Cincinnati-Dayton Rd behind the Family Dollar. I'm not even gay but I had a blast the times I went, one of my friends does the drag shows and it's not far from me.

The bar in Monroe has been around forever, they are only open Wed-Sat, the best place was the old 1470 West when it was at Hills and Dales.

When I lived in Lebanon, I hung out with a bunch of non-native, college-educated folk (in the early 80s we were a very small minority, and huddled together like lost birds in a storm, LOL). Every now and then we'd go to the Stony Ridge. What an education! Where else would I have learned the words to "The Rodeo Song" or country line dance with drunken truckers? But despite the potential for trouble, it was a relatively decent place.

The 80s were so awesome. LOL

Yea, I'm not a big fan of the giraffes or neon palm trees....

But yeah, so that's what it was like up at the Stoney Ridge bar? That does sound interesting!

The place was not too bad at one time, it used to be the congress inn before it became stony ridge, after that it went down the crapper, by the late 80s and during the 90s I could hear the lot lizards on my CB radio.
