There was a good series of articles last month in the Columbus Dispatch that talked about economic revitalization efforts in 7 Ohio cities. Here's a link to the article about Youngstown. Consider it a must-read if you want to understand how the government is looking to improve the city.

Thanks for the link to the Dispatch article. I had no idea Mill Creek Park was such an urban gem. Can't wait to see it. I like the affordability of the property and homes in the metro Y'town area. My only hesitation about moving there is dealing with the cold weather again, and then also wondering if it is difficult to resell your home. Any thoughts on that? I also saw the clip on Youtube about the Incubator. Interesting.

Here is a link to the Mill Creek Parks website: Mill Creek MetroParks

I'd only worry about selling a house if you only plan on living here for a few years. Also, have you heard the expression "buy low, sell high?" Well, this is a low point in the housing market. I'm not saying that you're going to make a lot of money by selling in 10 years. But, if you get a good price on property now, and list it for a reasonable price in 10 years, (when things will have probably gotten better) I can't imagine you'll have much trouble selling.

It also depends on where you buy and for what price. In a lot of areas homes over 300k aren't selling, but if you're in the 250k and under range you should be ok. Also, if the school system isn't that great you might have trouble selling to families if you have a larger home. Just my observance.

In looking at the real estate sites, I think we could buy a very nice house or build in the $250K-$300K range. Of course, it would be wonderful to get a "deal" since it seems to be a buyers' market. We are lucky in that we are moving from an area in Texas where housing prices have not fallen, so we have alot of equity in our house. We know from experience to buy in a great school district. I really appreciate your input, Cortland Girl.
