Default Possible Relocation to Y'town area. Questions.

We are considering a job relocation for my husband to the Youngstown area. We need property of 2-5 acres because we have a horse. Do you know of any residential areas where you can purchase 2-5 acres? We will probably build if we cannot find a newer existing home. Based on the office location (N. Blaine Ave), it seems as though the Poland, Canfield areas would be reasonable choices. Does anyone have any suggestions or input? It also has to be in an area with high-speed internet capability since I work from home via the internet. We are presently in Texas but are Ohio natives. We will be visiting the area in mid-January.

You should have plenty of choices. Many parts of the Youngstown Metro are very "blah" but Canfield and Poland are two of the nicest places in the area. Both are small towns with historic centers and newer developments just outside town. There is a sizable "horse" community both in Poland and Canfield and in communities farther south. My mom kept hers at a barn just south of Canfield. I'd say that you pretty much can't go wrong in Southern Mahoning County. Prices for homes and land will be more expensive in Canfield and Poland than further south. I'm not sure about the internet question, but I would almost guarantee that both Canfield and Poland have high-speed...

Anyways, good luck to you! If you have any more questions, I'll try to help.

A co-worker of mine lives in Canfield, and says her family is unable to get any form of high speed internet. (no cable or satellite, either) But, she isn't technologically savvy, so it's possible that they are overlooking some options.

You may also want to check out Trumbull Co. There are plenty of areas w/in 20 minutes of youngstown which will fit your criteria.

With horses and acreage involved, I always recommend Ellsworth and North Jackson first.
Looking at a map, and seeing that Blaine Ave. is in the Campbell & Struthers area, I will modify my first choice. I would make New Middletown, or New Springfield my first choice.

They share a school district known as Springfield Local. It's a good rural area, plenty of open land for horses, and still reasonable in prices. It is just South of Poland and would be a fairly quick drive to Blaine Ave. The Eastern side of Beaver Township would be just as good of a choice. It butts up against Springfield Local, and is part of the South Range School district. Everybody already knows that I'm biased in their favor.

I am stuck with dial up only because my driveway is too long for cable. It's available throughout the area. My neighbor uses an air card with his cellular service.

You can find land on the outskirts of Poland and Canfield Townships, but it's not really worth the extra money just to get their address. Look in the other Townships. You should find vacant land for 5-8 thousand per acre. Houses already setup with pastures and barns are very common.

Haha it's all good! I've got lots of family in Cortland and I actually like the area a lot. I'm glad we have someone on here to advocate Trumbull County!

Oh and yeah, I have to say, you guys are just a little hickish up there... My family owns guns, 4-wheelers, pick-ups and Harleys... And they think Boardman is the big city!!!

LOL They must not live in the city of Cortland then! Must be Bazetta or Fowler...........no 4-wheelers or shooting guns allowed in the city! haha! Boardman the big city??? haha! I consider Boardman urban sprawl of the worst kind, can't stand the traffice on 224 either, but hey, good shopping and restaurants!

Haha all true. I believe some live in Bazetta on 46 and the others live in Fowler on 193. The ones on 193 are considerably more hickish than the ones on 46!

And you summed up Boardman perfectly. I don't miss the sprawl or the traffic or the general "blahness" but I miss Applebees and Aladins and Los Gallos... Good food...
