Question yellow Springs

I have been thinking about relocating to the Yellow Springs area. I have been there a few times and enjoy the laid back atmosphere. Can anyone give me more info on the town.. Is it safe? Are there better areas than others? What can I expect if I lived there? Is the area staying steady or slowing declining? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks!

Yes, Yellow Springs is safe. I'd say the biggest "crime" committed in YS is probably the smoking done by some of its residents. As you said, it's very laid back. Still, it is slowly becoming an exurb of Dayton since there is some new housing development. I don't think there are any bad parts of town. Maybe some areas more run down, but the price levels for YS are above the market average for the Dayton region so there is little in the way of low income families.

Moving here, I've heard it can become boring fast. While neat, I guess the town can become the same old very quickly. But there are things to do in Greene County and Dayton within a short drive. I've also read on the forums that the town can be cliquey towards new residents, but I don't have first hand personal experience. I'd think that if you don't mind the liberal aspects YS embraces that you'd have a hard time fitting into the community.

I'd say the area is steady. Last I heard, the alumni of Antioch College where taking it out of the current boards hands in order to manage it themselves. I don't know where that will lead, but it at least keeps the college open. They've also built a new graduate school on the edge of town, plus I mentioned the new housing they've been constructing. Still, this is a small town so don't expect sprawl, typically antagonized by urban liberals and rarely seen in the controlled development of Yellow Springs.
