okay i just need to post this as a lesson that its hard to find good people now adays, IN july i got a ticket for speeding in hanging rock. on july the 28 my fiance (we were together for 11 yrs) and father of my 3 children died in our home from a complication from heart disease we didnt know he had it so this was a great shock, he didnt have insurance and i had no answers for my children now i had totally forgotten about this ticket, in sept. the hanging rock police department sent me a notice that i missed court and didnt pay my ticket so they were going to suspend my lisence the following day i was floored that the said the next day.so i called to see what i could do so my license wouldnt be suspended the man told me iwould have to pay the ticket i said okay that was fine and then he said they had added on a fee of 65 dollars because i didnt show up to court, now i would have had the 135 for the ticket on payday but there was no way i would have an extra 65 i still paying for arragements for the funeral and everything on my own with our kids so i explained the situation about what had happened and my current financial problems and asked if there was a way the contempt of court fee could be waived because of the unusual circumstances and if not waived maybe i could make a payment arragement to pay that the next payday. the police officer was very rude and unsypathetic he said if he did it for me he would have to do it for everyone and he wasnt gonna do it. i asked if i could speak to the judge reguarding my case the officer was nasty and told me no. by this time i had stopped cry 8 and 9 times a day i was down to about 2 but i was doing better and this officer really set me back i broke down on the phone and explained to him that at that time i could barely get up and eat let alone remember to pay a ticket. now i was loaned the money to pay the court fee and my ticket and i just want the hanging rock police department to know that i hope this is not the way they normally treat people and i hope the officer i spoke to never has to ask a stranger for help one day when he really needs it and if he does i hope that strangers heart is warmer the his was
The hanging rock pd are a bunch of idiots who spend the VAST majority of their time scouting for ways to ticket you. They tried to give me a ticket for going 2 miles over the limit, but it was thrown outta court by the judge. They do the ticket thing as opposed to..you know...actual police work.
Just a reminder to everyone of how respectful residents of hanging rock get treated by the police. My mother was working outside the police station in hanging rock on election day 2006. She was passing cards to voters you know just making some extra money before the holiday season. A man walked by and she approched him and handed him a card. The man took the card from her hand and then dropped it on the ground. She the stated to the man why did you drop the card as he stood there looking at her in a blank stare. She then stated could you pick the card up from the ground and he stated i work here, you pick the card up. She said i did not drop the card you did so can you pick it up. She stated no, the the man proceded to tell her he was a hanging rock police man and she better pick the card up. He then stated that if she did not pick the card up he would start writing her a ticket for littering. Can you imagine how degrated my mother felt. She then bent over and picked the card up and the very disrespectful police officer walked away. My mother is a resident of this town and has been for over 50 years. She is a very respected woman who has worked for the local school district and helped many children in our neighborhood. Please pass this story on to whoever you know to let them know how respectful residents get treated by the hanging rock police.
Why didn't she file a complaint? I wouldn't have picked up the ticket. I actually woulda dared the pos cop to ticket me. He would see just how sue happy I could be.
i have the ultimate "hanging rock SUCKS" story. in october 2004, i was pulled over for speeding. 70 in a 55, definitely my fault. it was around 8 a.m. i got a ticket for $199 (seriously!)--$90 of that was for "supposedly" failing to use a turn signal when i pulled over. i doubt that was accurate as my biggest pet peeve is when people don't use their turn signals, but whatever. i didn't want to argue, and there was no way i could prove that i had turned it on. (might mention, i live in columbus. i was visiting friends in ashland, ky at the time. hanging rock is about 15 minutes outside of ashland on rt. 52)
so, being a poor college student like so many of us, i called when i got back into columbus and set up a payment schedule as i couldn't afford to pay it all at once. i agreed to send $50 a month (in money orders) until it was paid off. wrote everything down, etc. i paid it off. three $50 money orders and one for $49. i called two days after i shipped off the last one, was told by a woman that it had been recieved, and that was it. i had only recieved two reciepts and i asked for the last two, but they never arrived and i (very stupidly)just forgot about it. so, anyway, that was over, no more speeding ticket.
SO. july 2005. i'm driving down to ashland, ky to visit my friends again. (very very stupidly) i speed again, right through hanging rock. 62 in a 55. as soon as i saw the red lights, i just though "GREAT, i'm an idiot!" and made sure to turn on my turn signal and pulled over. the cop (same one as the year before. red hair, red mustache, total jerk) took my license and info and went back to his car. i'm sitting there for 15 minutes, starting to get a little ancy, and a tow truck shows up. A TOW TRUCK.
he asks me to exit the vehicle and i'm obviously getting upset and i ask "why is there a tow truck? can i just have my ticket?" he says i have a suspended license--he says i failed to pay a ticket last year and my car is being impounded. i explain that it isn't possible, that i paid it off in increments of $50 with four money orders, tell him the dates, etc. he says he'll still need to take me in. so i say "well, my car is staying right here. i have no money whatsoever to pay a tow fee." he says "i COULD be arresting you." and THEN, he comments on how i'm wearing a dress. SERIOUSLY. assuming i'm going to go see a boy or something (i was dressed up, i hadn't seen my friends in ages!) he said "i guess your boyfriend is going to have to pick you up from jail, huh?" i was beyond mortified and pissed. i refused to sit in the back of the cop car, and when we arrived at the station, he said he needed to sit me in a cell and i said no and sat in the "courthouse". he said he could find no record that i paid anything.
anyway, someone came to pick me up and i had to pay a $200 tow fee a few days later. i went home to columbus and immediately began searching for the money order reciepts. i only found two. i had a court date a few weeks later and i went with my parents. it was a "mayors court" which i have come to find out is actually illegal in ohio. there were several other people there. all were either young girls, or older black men.
i went in to speak to the judge/mayor, stated my case and presented the two reciepts that i still had (damn myself for throwing stuff away). he said they weren't evidence because those money orders could have been used for anything. he wouldn't listen to anything i had to say. he cut me off and gave me a $656 fine, PLUS the $199 from the speeding ticket BEFORE.
this is injustice in it's worst form. i felt humiliated and furious. i never ONCE recieved a letter stating that i had a suspended license. i've learned the lesson to ALWAYS get reciepts for everything and to write down everything.
(also, when i did finally pay off my fine and had all the paperwork done to have my license reinstated, i called to ask them to please release my license so i could go get a new one. i asked the cop who answered "could you please fax me my paperwork to this number?" he said "no". it sounded like someone was laughing in the background so i asked "oh, are you joking" and he said "no." and i said "well, why not?" and he said (i swear) "i don't feel like it." i just hung up. i went 4 months without my license (had to quit a job i had because i couldn't drive there anymore and had to take a job in a pizza place that was close to where i lived) and finally paid it off, and was going to have to wait another 2 weeks because this guy "didn't feel like faxing something".
another lesson: only ever take US-23 if you need to travel around the tri-state area. stay off 52 at all costs. it isn't worth it. even if you aren't speeding, they will pull anyone over. i had a friend get pulled over there once for the light over their license plate being "too dim". she got a $55 ticket, FOR THAT.
i hate, HATE, the police in hanging rock. i've heard now that they are being investigated and it's ABOUT DAMN TIME.
Not only is Hanging Rock a speed trap. But the village itself leaves a lot to be disired. Its a little hole in the wall place that has its own rules. As stated here the want to be officials are rude and crude. But I guess if the only job I could get was a officer or a Mayor in this piece of **** town, I would have an attitude to.I would hate being an officer or Mayor of a village whose claim to fame was how many people they gave the shaft. But if your so upset with your crappy job in your little crappy village, then grow up and get real police officers job in a real town, instead of being ticket writers and takers in this whole in the wall village. But you probably could'nt handle it.Thats why you are where your at.
soooo are there any updates about a investigation into the hanging rock police dept ? or are they still robbing drivers traveling through the metropolis?
Okay,
So I got a ticket yesterday. I was doing 68 in a 55, pretty bad right? Not for my reason. I was going faster because my sugar was dropping ( diabetic ) and I needed to get to the store that was a ways ahead of me. I saw the cop coming the opposite direction of me and then I saw him turn around. It didn't bother me because I saw him following me. He came up to me and told me my speed and I told him "yeah, I need to get to the store and get me some orange juice because my sugar is dropping" and he looked in my car and said "if your sugar is dropping why aren't you drinking that MT dew?" and I told him it was "DIET" mt dew and it wouldn't raise my sugar and I need to get OJ. He asked me for my stuff, KNOWING my sugar was dropping, I couldn't find but my liscense so I gave it to him, and he's like "don't worry about the other stuff, run in there and get you some OJ" so I did. He BARELY asked me any questions or ANYTHING. Came back to my car after awhile, gave me my ticket and said "have a nice day!"
Is it WRONG for him to give me a ticket when I told him I had an emergency? I mean honestly, if you have an emergency and need something because I have a medical problem, can they really give you a ticket? I even saw him coming on the other side and I didn't brake because I NEEDED the OJ, and he obviously didn't understand that!!! I could've just kept on going and not worried about my sugar at all and passed out and caused a WRECK! I don't know what to do, I need some opinions, PLEASE.
Thanks for reading :]
the problem here is if they let you off even if it is a true emergency, the excuse will be abused by others ,like the old I had to use the bathroom excuse.....people are our own worst enemies case in point the welfare system, it is to help people in need temporarily but we are on the fourth generation who think its a right.....so bottom line is you will have to pay or everyone will become diabetics I hope this wasn't in hanging rock?
Two of the Hanging Rock police officers were caught taking payoffs, out on the highway US 52....one officer plead no contest and was just sentenced to 3 yrs in the big house...the other one hasn't had his trial yet...
I hate hanging rock. Me and my husband had a babysitter for our daughter and so we decide to go shopping with a friend and had to drive through hanging rock (we are from scioto county). Well my husband has had some problems with his license. It was suspended but we waited the time paid the fee and got insurance so we did our part but the bmv didn't change it in their computer. =/ so anyways we get pulled over by hanging rock police for no reason. The cop took my husbands license without letting us explain or show our proof he searched all of us and our car and was trying to get us to admit to having drugs or something. We are young (19-20) but we don't do defuse and he kept asking us and kept saying our car smelled like pot. Kind of hard to believe considering none of ilia do drugs let alone smoke cigarettes. And we do.t allow people to smoke in our car either. So I don't know what this cops problem was. But he ruined our night and he took my husbands license and gave us a ticket. Well we went to the court date and the ticket was dismissed but we still had to pay $62 in court costs! It just really ticked me off because we weren't speedily g or anything, he just pulled us over because he could and then to treat us like we were crufties or something. I felt very disrespected and a little uncomfortable. I don't understand why he felt the need to search is and our car. We were polite to him and everything but oh well he wasted his time and energy because we didn't have anything! The cop was just rude! So now of I'm going to ashland or Huntington or anything like that I'm going through Kentucky!
