There was a good series of articles last month in the Columbus Dispatch that talked about economic revitalization efforts in 7 Ohio cities called "On the Brink: Can Ohio's Big Cities Be Saved?" (The daily articles focused on Cleveland, Dayton, Akron, Toledo, Cincinnati, Youngstown and Columbus) Here's a link to the overview page with links to the articles. It's a great resource to learn how the officials in each of those cities are taking steps to improve the economic picture there.

That was an extremely interesting article! I have to say as a resident of the Toledo area that the job market around his is **** poor and my husband and I are heading south because of it. In all honesty Toledo has some major problems getting their graduates (both college and high school) in the area and it's really become a focus for the city and area as a whole. But I really think we need to make more than just manufacturing as the key to the city.

Couldnt agree more. This area is on a downward spiral; they need to do something other that building new tourist/amusement attractions (5/3 field, new sports arena, etc) and focus on attracting jobs and people-- something other than manufacturing. Watching the news and reading the Blade it seems jobs and economy is on the back burner. They need to get people here before revitalizing the downtown, building new malls, etc.

Toledo could be a major hub for the trucking and shipping industries, with its close proximity to I-75, the I-80/90 and Lake Erie.

Job situation here is terrible, if your not in healthcare all thats available is minimum wage or slightly above.
