I've looked at a few houses for sale on the west side, and it seems the strippers are only taking the copper they can see in the basement. They aren't smashing the plaster walls, and ceilings, at least.

Last year, I paid less than $1000 in taxes to the city. I don't know what kind of price range you'd be looking at in Boardman, but lets say you get a move-in-ready house for $70k. That's about $440-450/mo. (principle and interest only) Now, in my neighborhood, there is an old house for sale about a block from Fellows Gardens for about $15k. (I'll make a conservative guess and say that it needs another $15k in renovations) That's about $190-200/mo. You'd be saving about $3000/per year before taxes.

First off, its not just I have "heard", its I have seen too. JR C brings up a good point to. Youngstown is changing and I think you are going on about it by past experiences.

There are certainly a lot of properties in Youngstown for sale. Just check on eBay. Type in Ohio with the category or real estate and Youngstown always comes to the fore.

bahrottyn is on a distinguished road
Default Hi GreenPassion! I think that you may want to look outside of Youngstown proper.

If you want a quiet area to relax, I love my home in Howland township (Warren). Cortland and Champion are nice. If you want some land, you can find a lot in "the red-headed step child" of Trumbull county. I live 3 miles from the mall, I have over 2.6 acres (which is zoned with an agricultural variance), horses, a great yard to relax in and lots of landscaping to keep me busy, plus a small garden. Youngstown is a 20 mile drive away.

The cost of living is attracting me, to be honest. I can blend into most anyplace.

I love working on my home now, so I dont care if I have to roll my sleeves up to get the home ready.

Where I live now the cost of living is sky high, starter homes are $550,000

I'm too old, too tired for the game.

I figure, I could pay cash, renovate it if needed, it most likely will from what I've seen, and semi-retire very comfortably.
