Default Commuting from Youngstown, OH to Cleveland

Hello all. I am very glad I found this forum, and hopefully I can get some ideas on a dilemma I have.

I currently live in Cortland and I commute to Youngstown for work on a daily basis. My fiance plans to work in Cleveland because she is able to find a job in her field and is not able to find work in Youngstown (She also lives in Cortland too). Anyway, moving to Cleveland seemed easy because I can easily transfer to that area because my company has many offices in Cleveland. However, I have a huge opportunity to take on a promotion with more responsibility and pay in the near future which would require me to stay in the Youngstown area. Given that she is going to end up working in Cleveland (and wanting to live there also), and I am going to end up still working in Youngstown, it has shifted plans of me moving to Cleveland with her and transferring to another office.

I am willing to move to the Cleveland area and commute to Youngstown, but wanting to know which suburbs are best outside of Cleveland. I have looked into the Aurora area, and it seems to be a reasonable commute for the both of us if she works near Metro Health. Its also a possibility for her to work near Mayfield and Middleburg Heights. Both Mayfield and Middleburg Heights add an extra 10 mins to the commute for her if living in the Auora area, which is not desirable for her (or me, I worry about her driving on the Cleveland highways). So, any other ideas besides Aurora.

Thanks!

I'm thinking you'd want to stay close to a highway, so your commute back to Ytown wouldn't be too long. You may want to look into Streetsboro, Macedonia, Twinsburg, Hudson, Bainbridge, and even Solon or Chagrin Falls. At any rate I think you'd be looking at an hour commute to Ytown from any of the above including Aurora.

I know plenty of people from Cortland and the surrounding areas that commute to cleveland everyday. A friend of mine who lives in Cortland just got a job at Bank of America in beechwood and i've had a few other friends that worked there when it was MBNA. I would suggest that your fiancée take the job in mayfield since i believe that it is closer to trumbull co. Perhaps you two could move out towards champion, southington, or perhaps over the portage co. line. It would probably cut 10 or 15 minutes off of her commute and add the same to yours. That way your commute wouldn't be as bad as if you moved to solon. I know from cortland to solon it's probably a good 45 minutes. From Solon to Y-town is probably at least an hour in good weather and at high speeds. I myself would like to stay in the area. The cost of housing is a lot cheaper in Cortland than it is in the cleveland area and around here cortland is expensive. Good luck w/your decision, it's sure to be a tough one!

BTW, commuting to Y-town from cleveland will be well over an hour depending where you work in the Yo. If your fiancee takes the job in mayfield, would i be correct in assuming she would take 422 to 480 to 271??? I'd be most scared about her driving 422 myself with how narrow the shoulders are, especially when you are next to trucks. Although, maybe that construction they are doing will help. Just thought i would add my 2 cents about that. Good luck!

Well, it depends on what job offer she is going to take. I can understand on the cost of living in those areas. I honestly don't mind the cmmute of an hour or so to work everyday. It seems like a lot of people are travelling from the Warren area to Cortland, however, I anticipate a move to the Cleveland area eventually.

If she takes the job she realy wants, she is mainly on Rt. 422 to 480, to 176 on a daily basis. 422 isn't bad at all, it's 480 that scares me sometimes.

It seems like the Aurora area is more so a 45 min to a 60 min drive (according to google maps).

May just have to make some driving sacrifices for a few months.

Decisions! Decisions!

Okay. So we decided on an area at least. Either Ravenna or Streetsboro. We found a nice condo for rent thats about $825/mo in Streetsboro, and renter picks up all the utilities. Not so bad, considering the attached garage and full basement with laundry hookups. Any idea what utilities would cost in Streetsboro. Mind you, we work everyday, so, we would only be home in the afternoon and at night.

Recommend any good sites to look for house or condo rentals in Ravenna? They are hard to find.

Thanks,

Zach
