Moving to Mansfield-need help
My husband and I are moving to Mansfield and the end of January and I'm taking a job in Westerville (near Columbus). Could you give recommendations on nice, safe areas in Mansfield? Maybe next to shopping or grocery stores? We are looking to rent or rent to own.
Thanks in advance!!

DON'T DO IT! Kidding, I grew up there and visit fairly regularly. Best choice is Lexington, OH.

Why?
While I like Lexington and Bellville as much as the next person, it would be a snowy day in **** before I would sign up for that commute. Sure, it is not that far distance wise (maybe fifty miles) but it can be a real adventure, especially on those freezing rain days. In fact the freezing rain in the Mansfield area is a lot more troublesome than the snow.
I would avoid the city of Mansfield personally as the housing stock is generally pretty bad.
Most of the large markets are in Mansfield or north. If I was heading to Westerville, I would be doing my shopping in the Columbus area where there is a lot more competition although there is now a Walmart Supercenter at I-75 and US13.

Not to knit-pick, but I think it's I-71 and SR 13...

I'd recommend the area along U.S. Route 42, Lexington Ave., which is the far South end of Mansfield north of Bellville. If you go North on 42 from Bellville, two lights North of the plaza with the Save-A-Lot is Cook Rd. Go right there, and there are some decent aparments over along Cook between there and OH 13. I had friends who lives over in there, and it was very quiet and nice (in 2004 that is), so I imagine it still is.
This section of town would be good for heading to Columbus, as you can just head over to 13, and head down to 71 South. A little bit of a drive, yes, but Mansfield is a lot cheaper than greater Columbus.
If you're interested in living closer to Columbus and want to live in a nice country town, Mt. Gilead is a very pleasant little place.
