Question School Counseling/Guidance Counselors in Ohio

Hello! I am brand new here -- I want to get my Masters in School Counseling , but am worried about the job market in Ohio. I live in the Dayton area currently, but will likely be moving to Akron/Cleveland in the next few years. If you have ANY IDEA about how easy/difficult it will be for me to find a job as a guidance counselor, please let me know!! (I'd much rather know BEFORE I start school than when I'm desperately looking for a job... )

Thanks!

I am currently attending Kent State for school counseling and the program there is fantastic. I am only in my first year and I have heard mixed information regarding the future of school counselor positions. One positive thing I heard is that over half of the school counselors in the area are over 50 years old, so retirement for them should be near. I think in the next 5-7 years there will be more openings. Across the states there seem to be a variety of openings if you are open to moving again. Another great thing about the counseling program at Kent is that you are required to do a practicum and internship at 2 different schools, so you will get your foot in the door and meet some people. Good Luck.
