That might just hold a lot of appeal for some people, that is why I suggested it. That is what Warren County used to be like 40 years ago long before the developers came along and the bad element started to move into the area.

Bad element in Warren County? Other than some lower economic households in the Lebanon / S. Lebanon area (which had long been there) Warren County's demographics have improved immensely. Granted you may not like the transformation from country backwater to suburban sprawl but to describe the upper-middleclass demographic that pervades the county as "bad elements" is to give new meaning to the phrase.

I could do without the snotty attitudes and the smugness that didn't used to exist here, not typical rural small town people, not by a long shot. I am not the only long time resident that thinks that way either, we didn't want the sprawl and the problems it brought.

I am rather new to the state but I have learned a few things since moving here. Southern Ohio has some of the types of people that you (and I) seek to avoid. In my case, as one would the plague.

A "college town" that I would avoid is Portsmouth. I think it's a crystal meth center that connects the southern and northern trade.

So stay away. The same goes for areas near Steubanville and Zanesville. My daughter went on a missions trip to the former and came back like this .

There are many more places that fill your bill in northern or central Ohio than in southern Ohio.

The other thing that I've learned is that if you drive 25 minutes into the country from anywhere in Ohio you will start to see "evidence of redneck culture" - mobile homes - both in and out of parks, confederate flags, lots of extreme fundamentalist churches in shabby buildings and conversely, mega churches with neon signs, and Walmarts. Abandoned pick ups and the skeletons of farms.

English style riding is popular in NEO, but western seems more popular in the country.

That said, I love living in Ohio. Although the rain has made me a tad depressed as of late.

Autumns here are brilliant and glorious - and rather extended.

Best of luck in your search! keep us posted.
speaking of meth labs this is pretty interesting map on meth lab locations..
