Smile Which city is good to live near to Leetonia?

We are a family newly want to move to Ohio. My job location is in Leetonia but we do not want to live there as it is a very small village and want to live a bigger city nearby. That would be so kind of you to suggest us one as my wife likes to live in a place tp have some shopping are and so.

Please let us have your comments.

Default Just go for Leetonia

Leetonia is right next to Columbiana.

There isn't much in distance, I would just look for a house in Leetonia, it will be a lot cheaper. Probably the cheaper real estate taxes too, maybe less problems that the bigger places. They are building a new library.

The shopping is available in malls fairly close by. Lisbon and Salem are not that far away. My sister lives in Columbiana but I think she goes to Calcutta for the heavy grocery shopping. There is some smaller grocery stores in the immediate area.

I would just go with Leetonia, you have the best of most Worlds. A lot of development in that general area. Building way to many of them cookie cutter malls for me but that is what some people want. It is a fairly quick trip to most of the surrounding towns / areas.

You don't want to live in Youngstown and I doubt you probably would want to be in East Liverpool. I would just live close to work.

I would definatly choose Columbiana. Columbiana has a great school system, and some great looking schools. It is growing fast though with a lot of people escaping PA from the taxes and heading to Columbiana. I would also check out Salem and Canfield. Dont forget Boardman either. Boardman may be too big for you though. It is reaching the 45,000 mark. It has everything you could ask for. From the Southern Park Mall to The Shops are Boardman Park. With every restaurant and entertainment you could ask for. Leetonia is a nice little village though. They have a new highschool they just built. But Columbiana is a very good pick. I would check it out. The park in Columbiana is amazing too. Firestone Park.... has a great pool, nice ponds with walking trails. Very nice community Columbiana is.

Thumbs up Salem

is a small town with plenty of downtown and plaza shopping, parks, a good library and above average schools.

^Salem is very nice. I love the main street running through the downtown area. Very alive with nice small businesses with tree lines streets. I dont give it long before Columbiana and Salem grow together.

Your wife will have plenty of shopping choices between Salem, Boardman, Austintown and Alliance. Though it kind of bothers me that shopping is your #1 criteria for a place to live. Schools would be my first choice. The thing to remember is, there are no bad schools in this area. Some are just better than others. Drive 5 minutes North of Leetonia. Cross over Route 14 through Washingtonville. (Don't speed through there. That's how they raise money for the whole town.) Once you get through Washingtonville you will be in Green Township Mahoning County. It's also known as the South Range School District. Rated as one of, if not the very best school district in all of Ohio.
(That should cause some grumbling from the Columbiana, and Salem crowd)
It's also a wide open country area with mostly woods, and farm fields. A great quiet place to live. Unless you are truly a city dweller. In that case you may as well live in Salem.

Yes, it's very small. That's one of its many virtues. Roughly 950 kids k-12 in a land area of 50 square miles. We cover Beaver and Green Townships.
425 kids at the highschool.
165 in band. ( The only school in Ohio where it's cool to be a band geek).
66 on the football team.
They play division V football where neighboring Columbiana plays division VI. I'm not a sports person, but I'm sure that means something to somebody. We are very proud of Coach Yeagley for having 2 undefeated seasons in a row, plus numerous playoff appearances. Having said that, Coach Yeagley would be the first one to tell you that academics come first. This school district is very sought after strictly because of academics, local teachers are standing in line to work here because of that reputation. My kid is being offered full scholarships from two different colleges because of that reputation. I also know that if I moved my house across the street to the West Branch school district, I could take 100k off the price. I stand by what I said.

On another note. I found this site by accident today. I'm fascinated with it. It involves two of my favorite things. Talking about Ohio, and giving advice. I skipped my outside chores today just looking at all of the posts.

^Well im glad you like it on here. South Range seems like a nice area when im up there. Its in the booming corridor between Calcutta and Boardman. North Lima seems to be doing really well. I think the growth from Boardman is starting to reach North Lima.

South Range has one of the highest rated school districts in the STATE (and no, I don't live there). They also have the higher (for Ohio anyway) prices/property taxes to go with that.

Fairfield Township is an area to consider. As an "unincorporated" area they will have a Leetonia, Columbiana, or New Waterford mailing address and most students will attend the very, very good Crestview School District.

The Township is more rural- but has easy access to SR 7 and 11 both of which will take you north to Boardman in a flash.

Columbiana is also lovely and good schools too (Think Mayberry, really).

All in all, the entire area is a great place to raise a family and why many people stay or move here.

Another bonus (depending on how far your wife likes to drive) but from the Columbiana/Fairfield Township area it's just a short drive (maybe 5-10 minutes) into PA with *some* shopping in the Chippewa/Darlington area and a MAJOR shopping area (IKEA!) in the Robinson Mall PA area. I'd say it's a 30 minute drive.

One thing you will find about this region of Ohio - is that 30 minutes is considered "close."
