What towns are there in Ohio that have great active town squares? I'm sort of basing my idea off of Gilmore Girls show. Maybe a gazebo or big green space with stores lined around the square. Where festivities are held and people go walk and shop.

This thread may help you in northeast Ohio. There, in the "Western Reserve," many towns were designed to echo New England with public squares. Medina particularly comes to mind.

See post 7 in this thread.

Chardon also has a gazebo and some stores on the square, if I remember correctly.

In northwestern Ohio, perhaps check out Milan.

Urbana OH has a classic downtown square, centering a roundabout which intersects the town's two main streets:

lol Gillmore Girls.

Towns like that are a dime a dozen in Northeast Ohio. The old "Western Reserve" was built by New Englanders. Chaggy Falls is what everyone is going to say but I'm googling pics of the town from the show and I'm thinking Chardon or Burton might fit the bill. Less upscale, more....homey.

Shoot, don't forget Painesville. Although its demographics aren't going to be as whitebread Connecticut as the Gillmore Girls town.

Painesville's downtown used to be a major retail center. No longer. It has an attractive town square with a gazebo, and many events, but the activity around the square is dominated by churches, government buildings, and office buildings, as it is the county seat of Lake County. There are many festivals and events in the town square, but I don't remember any remaining retail outlets. Unfortunately, about half of Painesville's 19th century buildings were torn down and replaced by more modern, but not well designed buildings. Thayer's Hardware is a treat in the downtown area, but it's not on the Public Square. It's one of the few old-fashioned hardware stores left in Greater Cleveland.

Chagrin Falls certainly is worth checking out, as it often is considered the most charming upscale community in Greater Cleveland.

It will be very difficult to find a town where "everyday" stores are found at the town square and not at the edge of town, but there are a lot of towns that have a nice town square that people use every day.

Lots of good suggestions already, and I'll add a few more (some don't have a square explicitly, but do have a nice downtown):

- Troy
- Greenville
- Findlay
- Chillicothe
- Marietta
- Tiffin
- Tipp City
- Waynesville
- Glendale
- Mariemont
- Delaware
- Worthington
- Westerville
- Circleville
- Lancaster
- Athens
- Oxford
- Harrison
- New Concord
- Port Clinton
...I could keep going

Hudson came immediately to mind.

Painesville has a beautiful square - roomy and shady, but there's not much to shop for directly around the square unless you're going to the post office. The city has worked hard, though, to attract small retail to the business district a block away, and to organize events, concerts and festivals on the square. The Downtown Painesville Facebook group is always humming.

Lebanon is one of those towns that you'd think should have a town square but doesn't. There are two small parks downtown at the main intersection, but they're not used for anything but decorations at Christmas.

Hamilton is getting more stores opening downtown, some around the square, some within a block or so. They have quite a few activities on the square, including a weekly farmer's market on Saturday mornings with vendors all around the square, not just on one side like you see many places. In addition, there are several festivals a year that shut down traffic on the main east/west street for a couple of days as well as weekly concerts at the nearby amphitheater throughout the summer. Due to scheduling there are a couple of weeks that are missed, but nearly every Thursday night and some weekends.

It's not even used for X-Mas decoration anymore, the big pine tree has been replaced with a fountain.
