I still call it "pop" - however, here in Alaska everyone refers to it as soda. Being from Cleveland, it's pop to me lol. My sister in Conn. has same problem after living there over 25 years; she still calls it pop and the others there call it soda lol.

I live in NC now but am originally from Southern Ohio. I still say pop, sweeper, and sucker which people down here thing is so weird. Another one -- okay, when you go to the grocery store, what do you put your groceries in? When I lived in Ohio, we called it a shopping buggy. Dear god, the first time I ever said that in the south, my friends laughed their asses off. It's called a shopping cart here.

I'm guessing you live in the South East of Ohio? I grew up in the Youngstown area and I say all of those things as well. Then when I went to Toledo for college I was shocked to learn no one knew what I was talking about when I said sweeper or buggy!

Just the opposite for me....when I grew up in NW Ohio, we called them shopping carts but here in SC, they call them buggies, which is what we used to call a baby stroller (the kind the baby laid down in). I quickly adapted to calling "carbonated beverages" soda instead of pop because I think it sounds better. I've always called a vacuum cleaner a vacuum cleaner....never a sweeper, though my mom did.

1) both of those lists are absolutely true...
2) i've heard in Penn, they call soda "pop" in the western part of the state
3) if you are a Vegan in Ohio...it can suck, lol
4) and will someone explain to me why in God's name do the people in Dalton, OH call their town "DOW-ton"?!

Yes, y'ins is Pennsylvania Dutch slang. . The southern slang is not y'll, it's ya'll and that is singular. The plural is all ya'll.
