I felt your pain for 5 too long years. I moved to Phoenix AZ thinking the same thing. I love summer and drier weather, well, turns out I hated it. I was having to turn the a/c on in the middle of December. It sucked having to have a high electricity bill for 11 months out of the year. People think it's a dry heat, but not in July or August when the Humid monsoons roll through. Not only is it 115 degrees but the dew point is in the 70's half the time. And that's just the air temperature, when walking over the pavement it's about 150 degrees, no joke. The landscape is the most boring I've ever seen, nothing but dust and nothing on the mountains. If you ever wanted to see trees you had to drive like 2-3 hours away and it was still dry and brittle pines. You couldn't ever have a camp fire either. I did like swimming alot but that's about it. I moved to Westerville, OH in May of 2006 and haven't missed AZ one bit. And people thought I was CRAZY to move here. Truth is, I love it!!! Winter, what winter, this is nothing. I barely wear a jacket and stay warm. One more thing, it's actually nice to have rain every so often. We went over 5 months straight in Phoenix without getting one single drop of precipitation. I wanted to kill myself. Anyhow, just wanted to say how much I love living in Ohio and how much I don't miss the desert.

You make a good point. Alot of people have no idea how draining sunshine and dry weather can really make you. That kind of monotony becomes very tiresome and depressing REAL FAST. Even after 3 weeks in PHX I want a break from the heat and sun, and thats in October. That environment is cruel and shouldnt be inhabited by mankind. LOL

Worried about the elec. bills here too
Hi again all what's up missohio??
Well I'm finally all settled in down here in "Bama". I'll be sweating along with ya soon. It's been unusually warm for winter they say...high 60's but whoa the storms!! I love them don't get me wrong, but every time it rains down here it's like a monsoon and then they have tornado warnings. I'll be ok just can't let my daughter watch the weather haha. We went back to Ohio for Christmas but no snow ; ( oh well it was great to see our family and take a peek at Lake Erie, which our jet ski will miss!
I'm am worried how our first summer here will go, I'm like most, don't mind the heat but the humidity gets me. Someone on the Alabama message board said you can walk from your mailbox to your house and be soaked...great haha. Anyway Happy New Year to all you fellow travelers and GO BUCKEYES!

hi clarkx3
Hi how are you? Looks like you're settled in? Has your daughter started school there? How is she doing. At first my daughter liked it here, then after a couple months she hated it. It has been really could here this winter. The only thing missing is the snow. Yes, i know it ddn't snow in Ohio for christmas, bummer. My mom says it has been raining alot, even on christmas.

Missing Ohio
Hi Missing Ohio. I Have Heard Of Your Town, However, Not Sure If I Have Ever Been There. I Live In Conneaut On Lake Erie.
If I Were You, I Would Stay In Vegas And Just Visit Ohio...........
I Was Born Here, Lived In Fla For 11 Years, Moved Back To Ohio And I Can Not Wait To Leave This State!
Ohio Is Going Down-hill Fast (my Opinion). So Much Crime, Drugs, Dog Theft.......... Unreal! And, Nothing Much Done Legally!!! This Is Sad State, In My Opinion.
When I First Came Back Here From Fla, I Was Happy For Very Short Time. I Have Been Constantly Harrassed By This Little Town That I Was Born In Also....for The Last 3 1/2 Years....and I Am Rdh! Sons Puppy Also Stolen And Sold To Dog Fighters In May, 2006. I Have Found Much Evil Here And Also Many Other Areas Of Ohio.......
If I Were You, I Would Just Visit Or Even Better, Just Have Someone Send You Postcards! If You Would Like, I Will Even Send You Photo (nice One). I Have Some Really Unique Photos Of Sunsets And More. Just Let Me Know.
God Bless And Happy New Year.

^ Do we have another Ohio basher? You have to realize these problems you are saying come from your experience. I have friends that live around Warren, Akron and Canton from Pittsburgh and they have no sort of problems there. It is a much nicer scaled down version of Pittsburgh. They always say how friendly everyone is and how helpful. I realize you have had a bad experience, but you make it sound like this happens to everyone. Your experience sounds a lot different from many people that i know that live around Akron and Warren. When i lived in Cleveland i had many great experiences and the people were very friendly. You just have to realize different people have different experiences in different places.

I can so understand where you are coming from. We hope to move to Columbus in the near future to be closer to our "home" (Indiana born and raised!)
We currently live in Texas, have been here about 19 months and hate it for a lot of the same reasons!

misshome,
it's going ok. Daughter is a little slow at making friends so it's a little tough for her. She just had her birthday as well and no "party" so it was hard on her down here. They just have different things going on down here that take some getting used too. Nothing bad, but they have a moment of silence in the a.m. for prayer, you can enter beauty pagaents at school, and 4H is a mandatory sign up for at least a year to learn about agriculture. I'm not bashing it's just very different for her. The kids all seem very friendly however which is good, it'll take time. How is your daughter now and what grade? Mine is in 6th just turned 12 so add moving far away on top of being "pre-teen" haha. I'ts been chilly here too, nothing like Ohio in a normal winter though. My folks said the same thing you did, it's been warmer and rainy back home. Very mild up there this year. I do miss it or maybe just the people we had to leave. Either way I'm going to do my best to fit in down here. It's not hard just different. I did have a cashier at the mall the other day who had a "northern accent" I felt like I was back home for a sec : ) take care!

I too have an 11 year old who had some difficulty getting adjusted here in TX. Unfortunately the older kids tend to have their "cliques" built from a young age.
My biggest mistake was not enrolling him in enough once we got there (combination of injury and school being much harder than IL where we came from)
Definately try and get her set up into different things.
We also had the "no party" but in our case it was lack of RSVP's for 2 years. Amazing how the south is to be so friendly and such great manners--NOT
