Amazing how the south is to be so friendly and such great manners--NOT
I SOOOOO agree. It doesn't really matter if the kids say mamm and sir if the true respect isn't there. It seems very fake to me.

it is too early for me to see if that bears true, but it is odd how the first day of school girls were already telling my daughter not to hang out with certain people because they were talking bad about her....this was her first day of school how could anyone even know her???? So I feel for kids, I only hope it gets smoother over time, we had to come here due to the job but as you both my heart will always be in the midwest. It is funny how they think every one from up north is rude isnt' it? How long have you lived in Texas by the way?

Ohio really is an awesome state. I went to North Carolina for just a week and I couldnt wait to get back to Ohio. I understand why you miss being there.

Hi again!! We too had the no birthday party the first year here. My daughter is in 8th. Plus i have a 3rd grader (daughter )and a 5th grader (son.) Actually both of my daughters have made friends very easy. But my son still hasn't, i feel so bad for him. And next year he will be in middle school. The thing that bothers me the most out here are the car accidents, there are soooo many of them. It really scares me. Other than that it's not too bad here.

miss,
so strange you said that. It is amazing at the car wrecks here as well. I found out once we moved here that St.Rt.20 which we use daily between Birmingham and Atlanta is one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in the U.S. I don't know why but people driving 20 miles an hour over the speed limit everywhere might have something to do with it. I'm a bit of a leadfoot I'll admit but you really have to be a "defensive" driver down here. I'm glad your girls made friends right away, sometimes girls are so mean! Your son will do fine maybe he is just taking his time to make the right friends ya know! I dont want my daughter lonely but I'm not rushing her to make friends either, when we left ohio I'll honestly say I was glad certain friends of hers were being left behing. We know as women, how nasty girls can be. Hope your feeling better about being out there. It's been almost a month here, I miss home but once I find work I won't dwell on it as much. Keep me posted!

I have lived in Toledo my whole life and have never seen the economy this bad! We are looking to move and oddly enough we were looking at the henderson area just outside of vegas. This was an area we researched and found very good paying jobs that were in our line of work. I would miss the seasons here but my family deserves better.

misshome,
sorry I didn't get to answer you back sooner. I like certain things about Florida. But did it ever feellike home? No not really. Probably the last 5 or 6 years when we would pack up to leave Ohio to head home at the end of our vacation, I would shed a few tears, I hated to leave that much. I know adjusting to the winter weather will take some time to get used to but it took me 3 summers to get used to the heat in Florida before I could go out in it for any length of time without getting sick. So it's even. Just being able to swim in Lake Buckhorn next summer without the worry of being eaten by sharks or gators is going to be wonderful! I'm not over-exagerating on that either! It takes all the fun out of water play when you have to always be on the look-out! It will be a nice place to go visit if I need a winter break. But home is in Ohio. You can take the girl out of the country but you can;t take the country out of the girl. I'm a mid-western farmer's daughter and that's where I want to be!!!

Just found this site. We, too, are from ohio. Relocated to the south for promotion. What a mistake. Two children, ages 13 and 16. Have been here 6 months but knew within a week that we made a big mistake. We are considering going back without husband so the kids can be happy again. Grass ISNT always greener. Miss Ohio...hope things get better for your kids. Its very difficult to see your kids so unhappy, I know. Ohio is definately home sweet home!

I agree!
The exact same thing happened to me and mine. We lived in Ohio and then moved to Las Vegas. Now we live in Wyoming and are seriously looking at moving back to Ohio. There is just something about Ohio that pulls on your heart strings and makes you want to be back there again. I miss the snow too, I mean, we get snow in Wyoming, but there's nothing like that good old Lake Effect Snow to give you a great feeling.
