inspiring mind
not sounding dense, but dont you get much snow in Wyoming? I know our father talked about moving there years ago, when I was in school. We never did however. I know it is hard living away from home as were in the "deep south" now, Ohio is home to us. I just assumed it would be very scenic out where you are, how are the people? Jobs and quality of life? Just curious!

"hi, i'm from ohio. lived there for 33years. We moved to las vegas 16months ago for better jobs. I have been so homesick"
I live just outside of Columbus and am going to be heading to college next year and am very seriously considering Arizona State for school, but the only thing holding me back is the exact thing you are talking about. I dont want to get out there and then realize how much I miss Ohio. Some people would think that is crazy, but if youre a true Ohio person then you probably know exactly what Im talking about. Either way, I hope everything works out for you and you get a chance to go back home.

Clarkx3-
We've been in TX (Houston) since July 2005. I, like sn2go knew quickly we made a mistake. Within 3 weeks I remember telling my husband I was ready to leave. Coupled all of the homesickness with a house that had poor disclosure and a bad inspection....45k later....we should be in Ohio at the end of March, I'm definately ready--and, we are doing what sn2go has discussed, leaving my husband behind and he'll catch up later!
Of course for us it will be all new like the south was since we are originally from Indiana but lived in Chicago for 12 years before going south. So far I've had lots of conversations with Ohioans (is that spelled right!) and the warm feeling is coming through!!
Hoping to call myself an Ohioan in the very near future! Go Buckeye's!

homesick- I cannot believe anyone could miss the cold and snow! I do understand missing Lake Erie, but find the Atlantic much better. I miss my children-- but I'm NOT moving back to Ohio. SC is now home!

Hey homesick
Don't think many in the south are like those in TX. I lived there 2 years and liked it less than anywhere else I lived. Have been in friendly coastal SC for over 5 years and love it. I make very short visits back to Ohio, only because family is still there.

Captain,
I lived in SC years ago (Charleston), long before kids. It was very pretty there (just after Hurricane Hugo as a matter of fact)
We are outside of Houston now--SC to me is "south" I know, but when I was there it seemed very midwesterny like
OH will bring us close to family (3hrs) not like the 19 hours we are now.
I'm just hoping that everything will work out well, especially since we are going without my husband for awhile....

All my family is still in Ohio. I found friendly people, great weather, and so much to do here I love it. The cost of living is much lower here with the exception of housing near the beach and it is still not bad. Considering the Y-town housing market is the most depressed in the nation anywhere has higher housing costs. A 10 - 11 hour drive and I'm there-- enjoy seeing my family but after 3 - 4 days I realize there people exist, here they live.

We are going to be in the Columbus area (Dublin); I can understand the cost of housing issue too--that's why we left Chicago for TX.
I think you've found paradise--for me, in TX, not so much--
Charleston's weather is also nicer, you see some season changes. We are in Houston and there is no such thing, just hot, hotter and insane!! ha ha!

that is so funny you mentioned Dublin. We lived there back in 96' for hubbys job. We have moved all over for it, that's whey were in Alabama now....I know...Alabama haha.
It has been different, not bad just different.
I was more worried about our daughter fitting in. the whole "southern hospitality" thing is overrrated. I mean people are very friendly down here to your face, but when they find out your not from the south they definitely have a different view of you. I mean my daughter is 12 and the boys at school call her a "yankee" for pete's sake haha. This isn't everyone of course I don't want to generalize the whole south. It is more mellow and slower pace for sure. Something to get used too. I miss Ohio alot, of course because our family is there mostly but I really didn't mind the weather, I mean I am in southern Bama right now and with the wind chill it's 20 degrees so that is not warm!! I miss Lake Erie and our boat, I can't wait til' we come up in July. Our family gets a house on Gem beach on Catawba Island every year just to visit. I totally know how it is for all you living away. You can be happy where you are but we'll always be Buckeyes!

Clarkx3--
Most definately when people find out you are not from here they do the "yankee" thing.
Actually I was just getting ready to post. Do you know anything about Dunmere subdivision in Dublin? My understanding that one of the houses we are looking at was built by a builder that starts with an "N"--I found a Newberry builder but have never heard of them.
Any suggestions on builders in the area that are good or we should stay away from?
I had an M/I home years ago--never lived in it long enough to determine if it was a worthy product.
Thanks!
