I lived in Ohio 52 years, and I miss it too. I've been in NC 2 years. If I thought I could get a job (a BIG problem in Ohio especially the NE part)
I'd move back in a heart beat.
I don't however, miss the weather one single back. I had enough snow to last me a lifetime.

Since it did have 1 thing that made it special was the SUN wakes me 363 days a year, not weeks of rainy, deary weather. I miss the snow but travel up to Mt. Charleston, got caught in storm once witnin 30 mintues was back to sunny Vegas, where else could that happen? I miss New York so I save when I can to go back.... welcome to Vegas enjoy the lights around the valley

Where else can that happen? North Carolina, and even more, you can go from a snow storm in the mountains to the ocean in a matter of hours in the same state.

what is your opinion on the school situation there? i am single and very opened to opportunities, but nervous about the big move if i get hired for a job out there.
i also agree with the other people. the job situation here is really poor. i have a second degree in computers and am unable to find a job in that also.
moving on seems to be the only opportunity right now.
thanks!

I don't recommend Charlotte's schools, but all over NC they are in desperate need of teachers.

Excellent advice! A friend of mine, a native Cincinnatian, moved to Cleveland and Columbus for his job, and was amazed at how different the people and culture of Ohio could be. He said everyone born and raised in Cincinnati -- which can be pretty provincial -- should be forced to live elsewhere in Ohio for at least one year! LOL
I only made it 400 miles from my hometown, but that was enough of an eye opener.

Pick any city or State on these boards and you will find a "hater" that despises where they live, and tries to convince everybody how terrible it is. Then you find out that they are 40 years old and have never been anywhere else. Nor do they have anything to compare it to.
Go to Vegas. Enjoy the adventure. Then come home when you are ready.

Great advice, we all need to move out of our comfort zone now and then. First it teaches you alot about yourself and also that there is more to the world than your own little corner. That being said sure I miss Ohio it is "where I'm from" but my home is where my husband and daughter are and right now that is in Alabama! I miss Lake Erie, I miss my boat, I miss my Mom but this job is allowing us to live a far better way of life than up North. The Midwest is just suffering so bad with foreclosure, unemployment etc so you have to go where is best for your family.
On that note if your reading this misshome....how are things going for you? Haven't seen you on the board in awhile, hope you are well!!!!

HI!! I know what you mean, I was away from my hometown in Ohio for 6 years while we experienced living near the beach! Missed Ohio so much, the snow, the people, just being home. We are finally back and now I feel comfortable in my own skin again!!!

 Congrats on making it back!
I don't know how long it will be til were back, seems all the jobs in the industry hubby's in our in the south...at least were coming up in July for our week on the Lake with family, can't wait!!!
I don't miss the constant gray skies though! It's hard to be "down" when it's sunny all the time. If I could afford to move home I would but for now I'll just wish!

Hi all,
Just found this forum. We're in the opposite situation - we moved from the Charlotte area to Sagamore Hills (between Cleve and Akron) two years ago. We've been terribly homesick for at least the past year. It's amazing how you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone. I won't go into comparing one place to the other other than to say that if you're familiar with both, it's pretty evident that Charlotte is still growing (and experiencing all the problems that go along with that) while Cleveland has probably passed it's prime. But Cleveland has been around much longer and has to deal with the loss of most of it's manufacturing base. Plus the infrastructure takes more of a beating in the winters. But regardless of where you end up, home is always home.
Anyway, our house is for sale if anyone's interested. We built it in 2005, so it's like new. Plus all the yard work and shoveling is taken care of. We might be able to work out a deal for anyone who wants to come back.

I moved to Las Vegas 35 years ago! from a little town in Ohio called Rocky River. My family has a little place in Vermilion that we kept. It's absolutely beatiful back there, and you know what? When I retire, we are going to spend the beautiful time of year; summer and fall, back in Ohio, and the horrible time of year; winter, out here. After 35 years I still get homesick once in a while. They are very different cultures!

i moved from Akron Ohio 20 years ago....i still get homesick but 3 days after returning i remember why i left, i see a corrupt city executive and council, no jobs that pay a living wage, most Friends supplement their income by scraping metal and live for a forty oz.,and after 20 years have given up hope and accept their life style. and those with any ability to work in the construction area are under bid by the illegal immigrants flooding the area.
i had a Friend who worked for.....lets just say "smiths" family roofing for 18 years, and it seems that since the illegal immigrants have arrived the smiths family has a Spanish limb of the family tree, so after 18 years my Friend was let go account of he cost twice as much as an illegal worker!
why would anyone drink forty oz. in Akron? (sic) well my Friend at least had enough gumption to pack it up and leave for work in another state! instead of sitting back and cracking a forty!
Firestone park is full of the illegals repairing houses after a major hail storm recently......most of the people hire them account of the low price, will turn around and complain when another factory job moves south to Mexico or china....go figure!! anyone remember the rubber industry in Akron? adiós amigo's
