I am moving out to Vegas next year with my daughter. We currently live in Toledo, I too have to move because of employment. I have a degree in television production (broadcast communications) and Toledo just isn't the place to get a good job in that field. Even though I've lived in Toledo all my life I am soooo looking forward to NEVER having to dig my car out of the snow. After reading this post I wonder if I will still feel this way. ha ha ha

When I moved to SC 23 years ago, I swore that I would not miss anything about Ohio, especially the snow and ice. It took a few years, but yes, I did end up missing certain things: ice skating and tobboganing (sp?), crisp weather at football games, fall leaves, all the ethnic festivals in the summer, Fall hayrides and apple orchards, and the Lake Erie islands (esp. Put-In-Bay on South Bass Island).

I grew up in the country in NW Ohio and looking back now, I realize that it was the ideal childhood - and very safe! I love living here in Charleston near the beaches, but there are some aspects of Ohio that I miss to this day.

It is sad that the Ohio economy is so bad. I am a native Ohioan, and live in Indiana now, which is the same rustbelt economy.
Everyone and their brother is moving to PHX or Vegas, but eventually, there won't be enough water. They have to pump the water into PHX.
The Midwest has the Great Lakes.

Like the saying goes the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I really appreciate my hometown, i hope to someday go back.

I relocated back to Toledo from Dallas a few years ago and I realized as soon as I pulled off of the highway that I had made a mistake. I would have been just fine with a visit. Have you been back to Vermilion to visit? Maybe it is just time for a week at home.

I live just outside of Columbus and am going to be heading to college next year and am very seriously considering Arizona State for school, but the only thing holding me back is the exact thing you are talking about. I dont want to get out there and then realize how much I miss Ohio. Some people would think that is crazy, but if youre a true Ohio person then you probably know exactly what Im talking about. Either way, I hope everything works out for you and you get a chance to go back home.
I think it's exactly why you should go to ASU, I went to college in NC ( I had lived in Dayton my whole life) I loved my school but hated NC and my 4 years there made me realize that I wanted to live in OH for the long term. college is the perfect opportunity to try a new are of the country because you don't have to worry about having a job, and being on a colege campus makes it easy to meet people. I also would look into spending summers working in other areas (which is what I did) This gave me great insight on where I wanted to settle down. This way when you start your career, you make an educated decision on where you want to live without taking a blind leap of faith or wonder what if.

I live in Denver, but I've also lived in Oregon and Illinois after leaving Ohio. Most people think of the rocky mountains as some sort of paradise, but I think the people in the midwest are just more sincere, genuine, real, and friendly. Out here everyone is sort of ....aloof. No wonder you are lonesome or homesick in Vegas. It's sort of a lonely place even with all the casinos.

I'm from a small village in Ohio, born and raised for 19 years. I moved to Las Vegas, my first venture out on my own, and just couldn't get used to everything moving by so fast. Everything seemed so impersonal... I was used to everyone knowing everyone else, looking out for each other. I wanted to move back to Ohio, my whole family lives there still, but I knew I wouldn't be able to make a success of my life with the slim job pickings in the area. Instead I joined the Air Force, and have seen quite a bit of the country. You meet Ohio people EVERYWHERE, and let me tell you I've realized that the Buckeyes have the most loyal fan base in the country. I'm not the only one flying Buckeye banners in South Carolina! I'm learning to appreciate other parts of the country, but my heart still belongs to Ohio!

I too miss Ohio. Very much. I grew up outside of Alliance

After I graduated high school I joined the army. I have lived in Virgina, South Carolina, Texas, Saudi Arabia, Texas, Hawaii and South Dakota. I have missed Ohio all the while. I have been pleading with my husband to try to get relocated to Ohio for years but he just wouldn't do it. He is from South Dakota and doesn't see the appeal in Ohio

Well, now that his 6 years of being stationed is up in South Dakota, he has to be transferred. And guess we were got re-located to? OHIO!!! I am so excited to be going back home!
