homesick for ohio
hi, i'm from ohio. lived there for 33years. We moved to las vegas 16months ago for better jobs. I have been so homesick, we lived in vermilion. anybody heard of it? great little town. We miss the snow(love the snow). Would really like to move back but there really aren't good jobs there. My husband is in the food service industry and vegas has good jobs for that. I thought we would love vegas, i never thought i would miss ohio. I couldn't wait to get out of there, i thought i belonged some where "better". Like the saying goes the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I really appreciate my hometown, i hope to someday go back.

Yes, I've heard of Vermilion. Love to walk through all the little shops downtown. I lived in Huron for just about the same length of time. I'm not homesick for Ohio (I'm too old to miss the snow), but I can understand your feelings.
I've never been to Las Vegas, but I'm sure it was a huge cultural shock. I know Florida is very different from Ohio. I can't imagine going back now because, as I said, I'm too old to miss the gray skies and snow. I did however miss the lake when I was about your age and had moved to PA. Know what I did? I moved back and never regretted it for a minute. Maybe your heart is telling you it's time to head home.

No. I moved to Florida a few years ago. My daughter still lives in Ohio though. When my kids were still in school I thought Ohio would be the perfect place for them and although Pennsylvania was beautiful, I missed the lake. We just packed up with no jobs lined up and it was a struggle for the first year, but things worked out.
If you're really unhappy in Las Vegas, maybe you should seriously think about moving home. If not Vermilion, some place close by. I don't know what you do, but I'm sure somewhere in Ohio must have a job for you. Just keep checking online (careerbuilders.com, lorain journal.com, etc.) If it's something both you and your husband want to do, I'm sure you can work it out. Good luck! Maybe you'll get back in time for the next Wooly Bear Festival.

misshome, i can understand where you are coming from. I go to Las Vegas all the time and the growth is amazing. They are literally tearing at the mountains to make more room for growth, esp around Henderson. Vermilion is a great little town right on the lake. Im sure if you get closer to Cleveland your husband can find the right job he is looking for. The western suburbs are really nice and booming. Bay Village, Avon, Avon Lake, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, Brook Park, Rocky River are all close to Cleveland and the job market is more diverse there than just around Vermilion.

definitely have heard of your town....I am from S.Amherst Ohio! I will feel your pain soon, our family is taking a job transfer to Alabama!! We have moved around to Florida etc. Always for jobs though. It is true, we all think the grass is greener....but home is home. It'll always be here for you. I will miss the Lake, we are taking our jetski down with us as they have inland lakes, but we gave our boat to my father. We go and do what we have to at times for the betterment of our family and it can get hard. Economically this area is hurting though. Main reason we took the transfer. Most of the family is already retired and moved on. But friends are still here. You can always visit. Keep looking for jobs and I'll cross my fingers for you, in the meantime were Bama bound but Buckeyes at heart.
Good luck to you.

It is so good to hear from so many nice people from ohio. Thanks for all of your support.I would love to just be able to go home and visit, but money is the issue. It is especially hard now with the holidays approaching, we will spend thanksgiving alone(just me and the kids) my husband has to work. Here we are stuck in Las Vegas.

At least you have your children to keep you company, try to look at the positives. I know easier said than done. We will be in our new home in Alabama before Christmas! Things are getting chaotic and it hasn't really sunk in were going....especially for our daughter who is 11. I was going give you a link for the Vermilion/Harbourtown homepage, but usually they take em' off on here for some reason? But keep your chin up my hometown isn't more than 10 minutes from yours so if you ever need a pen pal, I'll be in your boat real soon haha.

clarkx3- that would be great, i'd love a pen pal. Thanks for the support too.Keep me posted on how things are going. My daughter just turned 14,she started and completed 7th grade here and is now in 8th. She hates it here.Which makes me feel like we made one big mistake. My other two children are younger and they don't complain like her(i think it's the age).Well, Good Luck on your move, i know how chaotic things get.Keep in touch!!!!
