Default How is this county pronounced?

Darke County, in SW Ohio, near Dayton. I have been through there several times and I hear all the time about this county being the home of the Farmers Almanac guy or some sorts. Everyone I have heard pronounces Darke County as "Drake County". The way its spelled to me would sound like "Dark" County. How does natives or fellow buckeyes pronounce it?

The people on TV always say "Dark" County. I've never heard it pronounced any other way.

While we are mentioning people from Darke County, let's not forget Annie Oakley and Lowell Thomas.

When Dayton meteorologists announce Darke county's many tornado warnings, they always say "dark."

And who was that NFL player for the Pats ??? Boston Globe gave him a makeover several years ago where he posed in Brioni suits and was given a $500 haircut.
