Next he'll kick out the Coast Guard and the Ohio National Guard. My Marine son was born in Toledo.
Sincerely: I may look harmless, but I raised a Marine BuckeyeGal/ex-Toledoan living in Georgia |

The Toledo mayor is an IDIOT. He now has papers to prove it.

this is what happens when one political grandstander has all the power. he shouldn't be allowed to do anything on his own! he has disrespected a lot of people and i'll bet he can kiss reelection goodbye.

Here's the local news on what's being discussed in this thread:
Mayor kicks Marines out of Toledo : News : WNWO NBC24 Now, as much as I like to keep my opinions fair, Finkbeiner's a real {insert the vulgarity of your choosing}. It's not because of this particular incident per se as it is indicative of what I despise about him. He's a very obnoxious, rude, bossy, controlling man, which does absolutely nothing for Toledo. Whenever he wants something done, he simply does it without the consideration of his charge (the quite sizeable City of Toledo). It's his way or the highway. Toledo could be so much more if they had local government figures who engendered higher paying job growth, listened to the community's desires (why do people from Toledo have to constantly defend their city?), and welcomed people from all schools of thought. What Carty did was very, very stupid. The mere fact that the Marines have drilled there four times since the 90's makes me want to spit on him. Where was the mass confusion and panic then, Finkbeiner? You know, there's also something called local media outlets to INFORM YOUR RESIDENTS of these drills. You seem to spend public money like water anyway, is another public bulletin going to kill you? The Blade has nothing better write about. Oh, wait, that's right. You didn't know they were coming until the last minute (*cough* *cough* Bull**** *cough* *cough*). Cut this joker from the team. |

It just shows some of the anti-war crowds real colors. His stance on the war and Bush never ever justified this slap in the face. Its one thing to disagree with policy, but showing that he virtually does not like our men in uniform is just disgusting. |

I've never actually met anyone who admitted that they voted for Finkbeiner.
Finkbeiner was terrible as mayor in the 1990's. Despite the singular success of "Keep Jeep", he presided over the loss of tens of thousands of residents and jobs from Toledo. After he left, Toledo elected the one man who was an even bigger, dumber, and more emotional buffoon than Finkbeiner: Jack Ford. Finkbeiner rose up to challenge him again, and won. The fact is though, that the Democrats (through the unions) exercise a lot of power over the politics in Toledo. Add in the Toledo Blade, which has always been more interested in creating news than reporting it, and you have the perfect recipe for pliable, dimwitted men like Finkbeiner and Ford getting elected over and over again. The Republican party tries, but Toledo won't give them a chance. |

Our illustrious Mayor has this nasty habit of engaging his mouth before putting his brain into gear. That being said, he really was the only candidate when he re-ran. Good old Jack Ford, spent all of his time putting his "buddies" to work, believe me, its how my husband lost his job. He gave a city contract to a bunch of his cronies, these guys didn't even have the equipment to do the job, they wanted to "rent" it from my husbands company. When they told them to pound sand, the Brilliant Jack Ford gave them their contract anyway, and put my husbands company out of business. Then, they lost the contract, coz they didn't have the tools for the job, and now there are 50 more people on the unemployemnt line than there were before. Boy do I LOVE this town.
