I live next to Elyria and grew up there. I dont think its going downhill that much, but it has gone downhill as far as jobs and the economy. A lot of stores are closing down now and there isnt much to do or look at anymore. Elyria isnt nearly as bad as Lorain, especially as far as looks. Elyrias crime rate is about the same as Lorains though. Its not that its getting worse really its just that nothing is really happening. The only good thing is that they are finally getting a new high school, which the city really needs.

I dont think that its going downhill really. The crime rate is way lower than what it was in the early-late 90s. The city looks more decayed now, especially the central section/ Southside and most of the main roads are more decayed than they used to be. Almost all of the Eastside and all of the Northside are still very nice though. The westside is kind of mixed between slightly bad and nice areas. The South Side has always been the worst since its all old housing and 90% of the public housing in the city is on the southside, but its not as bad as it was in the late 90s.

I have to agree, Elyria is going to hell in a hand-bag.

At night you really have to watch your back and where you walk, and the Police Department has gottin real lazy. The only time you ever see them is when they all hang around the back side of Ely park and Ohio street close to the station and where all the rich people live. If the show (COPS) ever do a show with the EPD they'll need to change the title to (COPS to lazy for TV video). The joke aroud town is "if you can't be a real cop in a big city then come to Elyria we'll let you be one here". Elyria's mayor is a stupid as they get, especially with this grand idea of his called, the City Beautification Planning Commission, what a joke.

There seems to be a major influx of welfare riders and illegals then ever before. And the reason why most people think the crime rate is down is only because they don't tell you all that been going on. And you don't dare go to the mall at night, you never now what will happen to ya there. Most of the stores are closeing thier doors for good because sales are down. But yet somehow they keep putting up new mini malls all over the place. and with all the jobs leaving the Elyria area, all we'll have are mini malls to get jobs at we're becoming a strip-mall society.

And the roads are so bad I dare not drive down Rt 57 from 113 to Chestnut Ridge, it'll beat the heck out of your vehicle. I was working with some of the city street workers and they told me that the mayor has backed the project up 2 more years. Why? No one seems to know why, he's just that stupid.

So yes I do believe that Elyria is go down the crapper.

And thats one of many reason why I can't wait to get the HE## out of OHIO, it sucks here.

I dont think Elyria is doing nearly as bad as you say it is. The crime rate is way down from the mid and late 90s like I said before. Elyria only had 3 murders last year which is really good for the city. Lorain is in a similar situation except Lorain has more murders, it had 9 last year and the highest it ever had was I think in 1994 when the gangs were really heavy in the city.

I agree that it is going downhill though as far as the economy. Weve had a couple major stores close down and the mall is full of empty stores. The major companies have either downsized a lot or shut down completely.

Butterfly Works is on a distinguished road
Retail industry is going through a period of great realignment and the chains large and small are consolidating. they are closing the smaller less profitable locations, trusting that the sales from those stores will move to the larger market stores nearby It's the same in every small market mall, not just Elyria, in this part of the country The main halls all tend to look like gap tooth pumpkins The mega malls are doing much better but they are usually located in the largest city in that area with some exceptions like Concord Mills, just up the street from Lowe's Motor Speedway, in Concord NC a suburb of Charlotte. You gotta look this one up, it's nearly a city in itself. Shaped like a race track, the main hall is just about a mile around
