I have to agree with everybody on this one. I live in Miami Township which is south of Dayton and can honestly say that by cost of living and wages there are few places in the country that are as favorable as Ohio. And if Ohio can get a jump on the alternative fuel futures Gov. Strickland is pushing for we will be looking at a very prosperous future in Ohio. But the weather in my neck of the woods also known as Siniusitus Valley is depressing to say the least, and we're looking to move to warmer climes. But it's hard to leave Ohio for the reasons above as well as leaving my Bucks, Dayton Dragons, and Cincy Reds. It will be hard to leave but I think we all need to explore the world to better appreciate where we come from. And if I move from Ohio I know someday I will probably move back.

My story is long & complicated, but I am back here now with my family. We are incredibly happy & content.
But none of this would have happened had I not stepped out of the bubble & explored.
I've come to appreciate what the area has to offer.
But that's just my opinion. And that is all it is...an opinion.
Others may hate it here. So be it.

We weren't born in Ohio but we got here as fast as we could! Wife and I have lived or visited a good part of the world. We ended up in OH by happy accident and love it here. It has so much to offer for us. Yes, we loved the scenery out West and love the East Coast for it's crowds, culture (not that OH doesn't have culture! ) and tourist attractions. But we can always go back there. This is where we want to hang our hats!

Better move to Arizona or Texas... The Southeastern (besides FL) US is ALLERGY HQ. I am DRUG FREE (no Zyrtec or Nasonex) since moving to Ohio! Spring and Fall in the South are miserable for allergy / sinus sufferers.

I guess it depends on what you are allergic to....when we moved from OH to SC 24 years ago, my son's hayfever and ragweed allergies (that he suffered with in OH since he was 2) completely cleared up....but then both of us developed allergies to pine tree pollen, which, thank goodness, is only around for 3-4 weeks each Spring (and our symptoms are minimal).

Don't come to Texas if you want to avoid allergies! I'm a nurse here and in my job I talk to folks all over Texas.......and EVERYONE has allergies and sinus problems!

I work in a hospital as well and I talk to a lot of docs from this area and a lot of docs brought to this area from Wright-Patt AFB, and they have read studies about the link between this region and abnormally higher levels of sinus problems. This area also known as the Miami Valley has a unique geography that intensifies sinus problems, this coming from my Allergy Doc as well. And I've visited serveral regions in the south, the Carolina's, Florida, Georgia, and after a week my symptoms were very much improved. Some allergies are worse region to region. I wish I had even more answers to why my allergies are so much worse now, because I was born and raised here.

Being closer to the coast is, IMO, the exception to the rule in the South. I left FL out because when I lived in JAX was the only "break" I ever had from my allergies. In CHAS, I wasn't nearly as bad but still had problems. And your right, the pine pollen is gross, but it's not that pollen (pine pollen is large and colorful) but it is ALL the other pollens that are out at that same time that makes that peak allergy season in the South. ATL is the WORST, because the topography is "valley" like. Take a look at the national data on pollen counts online this Spring, the South is always the biggest offender and with longer time spans. Like I said, the SE US is my native region, and I've been a lifelong allergy sufferer and lived in many large southeastern cities.
As to the Ohio factor, I don't doubt the other poster about there being a "Sinusitus Valley". Every region and/or state probably has them and I guess I was fortunate enough to move to Columbus where I don't seem to have that problem.

Driving north on I-71 from Cincinnati, I could feel my sinuses draining the closer I got to Columbus.
Ewww. Was that TMI?
I never had sinus problems until I moved to Cincinnati ...
