Although I agree with you on how so many city-vs-city type threads take on lives of their own often extending into forever, I don't feel they necessarily serve much purpose other than to give bored minds a place to hang out.

And so it is with this thread, as it follows the model of what's so crazy about the entire forum. City-Data is a discussion forum, not a chat room.

Perhaps it's my own misconstrued perception that City-Data was meant to be a meeting ground wherein an OP presents a discussion topic, and when that specific topic is sufficiently answered, the thread ends.

However, it's seldom that way here. Just grab a drink, plop yourself down in a seat and inject whatever your mind wraps itself around at the moment. In other words, B-Y-O-T or "Bring Your Own Topic."

Since no one in this sprawl is talking about Columbus, I'll chime in for future readers; I love COTA. However, it's definitely something you have to structure your living situation around, not vice versa. They're doing a lot of updates this spring so that most stops will have 15 min service, including on weekends, so that's great. There's also discussion of adding a light rail to the most served routes. I think it's a great, reliable service, but I've also never tried to live without a car so. It would take a lot of research and planning to comfortably live in Columbus without a car and without using uber/lyft fairly often. Certain neighborhoods are much more walkable and served by COTA than others. The suburbs, you can forget it.

Because the public transportation in Columbus is indescribably awful. Taking it from "among the worst in the nation" to "merely adequate" is not enough.

That said, the CABS buses on campus do a great job.
