Default looking for hideaway land southeast ohio

Hello,
Could anyone give me an opinion on acquiring land (5 acres or so) in Morgan County, Muskingum river area for a retreat, out of the way place, semi self sufficient living? Thanks.

What about Newark, Ohio. It is far enough from the big city (Columbus), but still offers a very quaint and quiet lifestyle.

Thanks Traveler87,
No I have not thought about Newark. What is the country like there? I would like hill country, with somewhat close water source, again an out of the way, rural, land based lifestyle.

Newark is quite populated with about 46,000, but like I stated very quite and slow lifestyle.

linn, glad I could help.

City of Newark, Ohio

Local lake areas would include Buckeye Lake and Dillion Lake.

Also, Hocking Hills State Park is nearby. Offering some of the best waterfalls east of the Mississippi.

I live in Morgan County. If you want land for a weekend or summer retreat it is a beautiful area. But, no jobs. If you are looking to relocate with a family, rethink it. We are very rural. Closest towns with any BIG shopping are Marietta, Athens and Zanesville. Small towns close with small shops and pharmacies. I have lived here all my life and I am used to it, wouldn't live anywhere else, but for someone coming in, set your expectations low as far as employment, etc. Again, the countryside is BEAUTIFUL, hunting is great. Recommend it wholeheartedly for vacations. Hope I helped.

My Dad owns approx. 200, mostly wooded, acres in Hocking Co. (Ohio) and just spoke of the possibility of selling some of this land. If you're interested in more info, let me know.
