Re: Circleville?

John C. Maxwell

NEW QUESTION: Okay, honestly, I haven't read all 30 pages of this thread! So, hopefully this hasn't already been asked.

What small town is named after a political campaign slogan used by William Henry Harrison? Note, the town has changed names slightly two times because of postal codes and now goes by an abbreviation of its original name.

Ha! Well, you're sort of right. It's spelled Tippecanoe. But, that's not what the town goes by now.

Other guesses?

Simon Girty, adopted by the Seneca as a young man, sided with the British to fight the Revolutionaries in the Ohio Territory. Because he was such a bad guy, he's doomed to spend eternity polishing Mad Anthony Wayne's cannons, which once stood at the eastern point of Girty's Island. Where is Girty's Island?

Just off the top of my head here. Mad Anthony Wayne had a training camp in Baden, Pa. right on the Ohio river in Beaver County. I want to say it was called Logstown, or Legionville, but could be wrong on those names. Simon Girty was a bandit that was known to hang out in the Fredrickstown area of what is now Beaver Creek state park in Ohio. The Sandy& Beaver canal has a lock that is known as Simon Girty's lock.

So, I'm going to say that Girty's island is in the middle of the Ohio River. East Liverpool, ohio on one side and West Virginia on the other.

Extremely good logic, but not correct. Gityy's Island is in a totally different of the state...and is totally surrounded by Ohio.

Never heard of it, but the Seneca were in northern Ohio I think? That's pretty much the extent of anything I could muster up in thought about it.
