Is a driving test and written exam required if a new resident is switching an out of state drivers license to an OH drivers license? I did a search, and the info was vague. It said sometimes that tests would be required. Anyone out there care to share about their experience switching drivers licenses? I have been driving for decades with no accident or tickets of any kind. Do I really need to take tests all over?

When I moved to Ohio about 6 or 7 years ago I had to take the computer test. You can get a study book from the BMV but it's pretty easy. I only missed 2 questions "How loud should your horn be" and "How many feet back from a train track." Most of them are common sense like a picture of a yield sign "what does this sign mean." The computer stops once you've answered enough questions to pass. I did not have to take the driving test, just the computer one.

Three years ago all we had to do was take the eyesight test and surrender our previous state's DLs.

Call or visit a local BMV deputy registrar office for a current, definitive answer:

State of Ohio BMV

When I moved back, I had to take the written exam, eye test, and surrender my out-of-state license. I was not required to take the driving or maneuverability exam. This handbook appears be the rules and regulations seen on the written (re: computerized) test.

I moved to Ohio in 2014 and only had to take the eye exam. No written test. No driving test. Didn't even have to give up my Michigan license.

The only test you should have to take is the eye exam. I believe they dropped the requirement for the written test relatively recently.

I switched from NJ to Ohio in 2016. Just did the eye exam and it took about ten minutes total to get my new license.
