Sorry, now that I've read further, I see that Austintown is kind of big and it sounds like Canfield has better schools. My son is coming from a school of about 1,000 kids. He also is very athletic and loves to play football and baseball. It sounds like Canfield has a good athletic program also. We are looking for a newer home, Does Canfield offer any homes that are newer, but aren't super expensive? Thanks again!!

There are much much better choices than Austintown. That is, unless you want to live in 900 square feet on a slab, packed in next to your neighbors. If that appeals to you, Austintown is the place to be.
Tell us your wants and wishes. We'll find a nice place to fit your request.

We would like a little newer home, ours is 10 years old here in Wisconsin. It doesn't need to be huge, maybe 1,500 square feet or larger. Our home now is pretty big and we don't need all the room We would, however, like 3 bedrooms because we have another daughter that goes to college here in Wisconsin. Is it possible to find a home like that for 155,000 to 175,00? We really want to cut our expenses now that we know how it feels to lose your job!! Thanks so much!! This is a great site and I'm glad I found it!

I know there are houses of that size, age, and price range in Liberty Township, Champion Township, Howland Township, and Cortland. I believe Howland and Cortland would be about a 20-25 minute drive depending on your route, Liberty and Champion may be around 15 minutes. I looked it up on google maps and it says 30-35 minutes from Cortland, but there is no way it takes that long. All of these areas are North of Lordstown in the same county. SouthRange will be able to help you with Mahoning and Columbiana Counties.
Here are some in Cortland:
Not sure if you are interested in condos or villas, but here's a nice one

I should add that most newer homes in the area are in the 180k-250k range (1800 to 2300 sq/ft), so it may be hard to find a newer home in your price range w/only 1500 square feet or so unless you go with a villa or condo.

Just want to thank you for the help. This is a confusing time and it 's good to know that there's such nice people in Ohio! What exactly is a villa? What's the difference between that and a condo? Thanks.

A villa is like a stand alone condo. They usually have basements, 2 car garages, etc., but i think there are association dues so they can take care of your house, yard, etc.

How important is it for your son to play football? He has a few things going against him right now. Practice has already started at most schools. Your son only has two seasons left. Schools like Canfield, and South Range have kids that have been playing there since the 5th grade. Hundreds try out for the team.
Western Reserve only has 800 kids K-12. They field a winning team in the lower tier of the ITCL. They have a small team. They would probably be the most accepting of a new transfer.
WR is made up of Berlin and Ellsworth Townships. It's rated as excellent, and is about 8 minutes South of Lordstown.

I was afraid of that. It's the same way here. Football is like a religion in our town. Our son has played since first grade too and workouts go all year long. I'm sure coming from someplace else would not help him get on the team either. Thanks for the info.

Just wondering what the property taxes are like there. We have a 10 year old 2,000 sq. ft. ranch in a subdivision on a normal city lot and we pay about $5,000 a year. I hope the taxes are lower there. Also, what is Hubbard like and how are their schools?
