Thinking Of Moving
Hello everyone.
I have a few questions.
I am looking to move to a place with low crime, good schools,
great health care, clean air/water and decent housing costs. I would be looking to rent for the first year and would be looking for a house in the price range of 2k a month or lower.
I do enjoy LOTS Of sun. I know I can't ask for that during the winter but what about spring, summer and fall? How cold does it get and how warm does it get. I prefer warm weather during spring, summer and fall so how warm during those months?
I want to live in a city around 30k or under with lots of great things for my my children to do (ages 13 and 18).
Thank you all for your time.
John

Hi John,
There are lots of nice smaller towns in Ohio. I grew up here. It is VERY cheap! If you love sun though, Ohio is not for you. We are moving back to California (lived there 05 and 06) because we can't stand how depressing it is here weather wise. Many native Ohioans will say that it's not that bad, but that's only because they don't have an alternative comparison (my parents love Ohio and the weather).
If you are used to alot of sun, you will be disappointed. Even in the summer, it's often cloudy or rainy. It gets pretty cold in the weather, wind chills are sometimes below zero, I hate shoveling snow when it's so cold the wind hurts your lungs. Summer in July, Aug is in the 80's sometimes 90's. June is usually nice, 70's and some 80's. Spring is very rainy and sometimes snowy, on Good Friday this year, we got about 3 inches of snow.
But, you can't beat living costs here!
Good luck!

A nice up and coming city to check out is Findlay.
Findlay is, and has for as long as I can remember, been a growing city. I could be dead wrong, but I believe that it has about 50,000 residents. Findlay consistently has some of the lowest unemployment rates in the state as well.
There are pretty good public schools, as well as excellent catholic schools.
It's about 1 hour from Toledo, 2 1/2 from cinci, 2 from columbus, and also around 2 - 2 1/2 from cleveland. Oh, 2 hours from Detroit too.
Findlay is definately a very safe city.
As for social life, I can't comment b/c I'm not in the city all that much.
For the weather, I would recommend doing a search for Findlay from the city-data.com front page. They have excellent weather stats floating around there somewhere.

I guess you need to be a little more specific. What do you want the landscape to be like?? City or Suburban area??? Close to a certain city or town?? How close to shopping or amenities??? What do you like to do???? What about snow??? a lot or not so much??? some people hate snow, so if that's the case we don't want to recommend someplace in the snowbelt. If we knew these things, we might have a better idea of how to help you.

I think you're probably not getting a lot of feedback, because Ohio just doesn't fit what you're looking for in weather. It sounds like Ohio is not sunny enough for what you're looking for.

Well..I understand that winter is not sunny enough but how about spring, summer and fall...I enjoy rolling hills or mountains...and I would want to be in the area of Ohio where winter is the mildest.

Winter is probably the mildest in the Cinci area, but i've never been there, so i can't comment. I live in NE Ohio, we have the rolling hills, but get an average of 55 inches of snow, more in the snow belt. I believe Cinci only gets 20 or so inches a year. Maybe the people in southern Ohio can help.

You can find more sun in TN. Now all the others can apply to Ohio, you just have to look into certain metro areas, and which one you like the best. Fall is great in Ohio, and the spring and summer are nice too, winter is not too bad in the SW part of the state.
