I think it depends on why you're thinking of moving to there - do you have a really good job offer? Or another reason? I think if you had a community, friends, family, and/or a good job in the area, it would be just fine. But it would be a hard place to start out.
Wrong.

Few communities of Youngstown's size (a population of less than 65,000 and a metro area of less than 550,000) have an art museum of the quality and reputation of the Butler Institute of American Art, the first art museum dedicated exclusively to American art.

Also, especially outside of Ohio where county park nature preserves have flourished for almost a century, many American communities of Youngstown's size have nothing like the Mill Creek Metroparks, which is exceptional even in Ohio.

Also, see post 2 as to Youngstown's close proximity to other cultural centers including Cleveland, home of some of the nation's very best cultural institutions, and Pittsburgh, let alone Akron.

Youngstown is only one hour from the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and, as noted in post 2, the Blossom Music Center, arguably the best classic music summer venue in the U.S. and a major venue for other music genres. See post 23 here:

Youngstown also is just over 90 minutes from the heart of Ohio Amish Country, the largest Amish community in the world.

It's also just over 90 minutes from Presque Isle, home to some of the very best fresh water surf beaches in the U.S., and only just over an hour from the Geneva State Park beach. Youngstown is less than 90 minutes from the excellent Allegheny National Forest. There are many other great attractions near Youngstown.

My point is that Youngstown not only has great attractions of its own, but that few similarly sized communities have such exceptional access to a variety of superb attractions.
