Unhappy Bored and young in Boardman

I am a Boardman lifer. I left for school and then came home. I got a internship in Charlotte, had a blast, then came back to YSU for an advanced degree w/o out of state fees. I am bored here...what is there to do. I am 24-I am over the club scene, I am at the movies so much the staff practically knows my name! My friends have either relocated, or gotten married and started a family. What is there here (near here) to do?

Hi Cici, welcome to the forum. I too am a Mahoning Valley lifer, and at age 29 i am sort of in the same situation. I've never been a big partier either. All of my friends have moved to Columbus, Arkon, Cleveland, or down south. In fact, my 25 yr. old brother is a teacher in NC, so i do feel your pain.

Anyway, what exactly are you interested in???? Maybe you could volunteer??? Youngstown also has a young professional club you could join to meet new people and network. MVP 20/30 Club

What about getting involved w/the DEFEND YOUNGSTOWN! movement?? Right now they are looking for volunteers to help revitalize Wick Park. Do you like to play sports??? I believe the Phil Kidd (from defend y-town) and some others started a Youngstown kickball league. Maybe if you can find one person to do something with you could go to an af2 game, a hockey game, or to see the Scrappers, if you like sports.

What about joining a gym??

I have a lot of married friends w/too. Sometimes we just hang out and play w/the kids, go for walks, and we try to get together for lunch or dinner sometimes, which they are happy to do, minus the kids. Parents need a break sometimes.

Alright, give us some more ideas and maybe we can help.

What was it that you were doing in Charlotte that was a blast that you can't do here? Lets start there first...

I think it's time to look for a new adventure! Honestly, I understand why you came back for school, but seeing that you aren't ready to settle down and have a family, which is good (you are way too young)! So quit complaining about being bored, get out there and experience life! You state that you had a blast in Charlotte, well you can either go back there or try somewhere completely different. You have an education, I assume you are single and free to move...what the heck are you waiting for? Here's your kick in the arse

Thanks for the info and suggestions. I am really trying to give Youngstown a chance here because it IS home after all. I just thought I was missing something.

Here's a link to the Y-town kickball league, Kickball League of Ohio, they say you don't have to be an athlete, just have to like to have fun!

It's nice to see some 20-somethings on the forum! I just turned 28 and will be moving to Boardman in mid-May.

I think when you are born and raised somewhere, not matter where it is, it will eventually seem boring. I was born in raised in Orange County, CA and couldn't wait to leave in 2005. I was so sick of it! I spent the last couple of years in Santa Fe, NM... this place is hell! As far as things to do and stuff to see, northeast Ohio is SO much better than northern New Mexico.

Anyway, I think it's all just a matter of perspecitive. I will probably find Youngstown very exciting for a while because it's all new to me. Maybe you're just ready for a change of scenery?
