Bowling Green has about 35,000 residents, it has quite a bit of shopping for its size, about two hours from Cleveland and Columbus, and about 1 hour from Toledo. Most people i have come across have been very nice and helpful getting around the city. No different experiences that stuck out in my personal experience while there.

Hello there,
I thought I would join and chip in my two cents about Bowling Green Ohio as I currently am a student at the university and I have lived all my life in Toledo Ohio which is at max 30 mins. to the north(correction from above). The area is quite flat, with no hills to speak of. The people are nice, pollution is next to none, in fact there are three high-tech windmills to provide some of the cities energy and cut down pollution. Jobs I can not comment on much, but as I said before, Toledo is only 30mins away and has a population of about 350,000 people. The climate of bowling green is interesting, it can get hot in the summer months, 90's with little wind and high humidity, and in the winter months it can get cold and becomes windy due to the open farm land surrounding the town. I personally love the college and the town is good enough for my liking. I don't know if I would want to live there for the rest of my life, as I tend to prefer a Toledo sized town or bigger. Well I hope I helped you out a little bit. Last edited by peppy8580; 12-20-2006 at 09:37 PM. |

I just graduated in May and lived in Bowling Green for 5 years. It's a nice town and feels very small and friendly. Toledo is very close so there are things to do if you're willing to drive 30 minutes. The summers are much too hot and humid and the winters are too cold and snowy for me. They call Chicago the windy city, but one of my best friends is from Chicago and he said Bowling Green is 10 times windier than Chicago because it's just as flat but has no tall buildings to block the wind. The people are nice for the most part. The landscape is very boring and is mostly farm after farm. I for one didn't particularly like the university. They have a reputation for being a great school for Education majors, which is why I went there, but the program was pathetic. I feel as though I didn't learn a thing.

Trying to make that big "college" decision - recently visited Bowling Green against a few of my friends advice - they gave their opinion of the campus in the form of "full of STD's" and "dikes" .... so anyone out there who has had the BGSU experience give me your input please. I read the post from 4Sarad where she was disappointed in the education program - I'm interested in journalism so there are other options. Thanx

I grew up in Bowling Green and would only recommend that those who want to attend the university move there. The town is totally built around the university, which makes the rent prices very high. I'm in my 20's and it was very hard to find anyone who would rent to me just because of my age. They assume I'm the partying type because a lot of the university students in BG like to drink and party hard. The apartment landlords/ police could really care less if the parties keep the neighbors up every night. I was forced to live in one of the apartment complexes heavily populated by students and in turn hardly got any sleep for a year and a half.
Of course there are some nice areas of BG if you can afford it. Bowling Green could also use some nice restaurants...most people there travel to Findlay or Toledo to eat out. And No, I don't have a chip on my shoulder, it's just the honest truth about Bowling Green. There isn't much to do there unless you only care about hitting the bars...with one exception: Grounds For Thought is a great coffee house. I wish there was one like it here in Perrysburg. |

I would say more like 1/2 hour to Toledo, about 1.5 hours to Detroit/Ann Arbor. BGSU is a large part of Bowling Green as a city. BGSU is more of an undergrad school than a grad school and best known for a teaching school.
BGSU is in the MidAmerican Conference with Toledo, Ohio U, Miami (Ohio), Akron, Kent State, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Ball State and Northern Illinois. The colors are ugly--orange and brown. BG is topographically a lot like a table. This area doesn't get a lot of snow. All in all, it is a nice place, but a little drab. |
