I’m exploring different ways to head from Indiana to central Virginia and one that caught my eye was Rt. 52 along the Ohio River from Cincinnati to Huntington WV. Anyone ever take it that far? How much is two lane vs four lane? Any decent places to stay overnight along there, especially towards the western end as we may be leaving late from Indianapolis and I’d like to get further than Cincinnati. Ideas, thoughts welcomed.

There are some bed and breakfasts that are not too far off the road, or you could stay at a chain place in Maysville, KY (which is where there's a bridge to cross the river). While a lot of it is two-lane, the speed limit is 50+ in a lot of places and there usually isn't that much traffic. After you get to Portsmouth, they've made a lot of it limited access.

It's honestly a fairly boring drive and most of it is 2 lane. Save yourself some time and either take the AA highway in KY or Rt. 32 (I'm from Huntington and have made that drive to Cincinnati many times)

Thanks. It may be boring but at least it’ll be different and I can say I’ve done it. Found a place to stay overnight in Maysville Ky thanks to dxd above. We did AA in KY once and also found it mainly two lane and boring so just need to try something else. I doubt if we would ever do it again. Is Rt. 32 a lot like 35 in terms of four lanes? May keep that in mind for the next trip.
