Two things you will learn very quickly.
If the acreage has a tree on the property, multiply the lot price by 2X.
If the acreage has any topography whatsoever, multiply the lot price by another 2X.
Acreage out there is usually a flat, featureless chunk of old cornfield with absolutely no features. If you like the idea of building a house in the middle of a barren field (oh yeah except for all the other people that are building in the middle of their barren field), then you'll have a lot to choose from.
The nice acreage with trees and topography is very hard to find, and very expensive. They are out there, but be prepared to pay a significant premium. The further West you get, out past Urbana and Bellefontaine, you have more options. Good luck with your search.
