Well first off your going to have to get a new attitude about commuting I have a good friend who lives in UK with her husband and my husband spent 3 years in Germany, so I understand where you are coming from. In Europe you can hop a train to anywhere..In the US you can't, in fact good luck getting near a train station <G>. Dublin is a lovely city. It is just far enough from Columbus to be less stressful on the driving issue. NO One in America drives 3 hours to work unless you are in the process of moving closer to a new job or work at a Nuclear power plant!
My cousin lives in Dublin and she really likes the town. She teaches at OSU. (I think)
Your best bet is to contact an Real estate office in Dublin OH Just go to Yellow Pages Local Directory - YELLOWPAGES.COM and you can put in the city and find an office. Also if you need a company to help you with your 3 month transition housing go to Temporary Furnished Apartments, Corporate Apartments, Serviced Apartments and Extended Stay Housing or BridgeStreet Corporate Housing & Serviced Apartments Worldwide They are two excellent companies that I have used many times in the past. You get a furnished apartment that is usually in a gated community and has all the amenities. They may also be able to help you find a good Realtor. Oh and best of all there is an Eddie Bauer warehouse outlet not far from there with amazing deals on everything Eddie Bauer sells. I love that place and try to stop there every time I come through town. Both Oakwood and Bridgestreet are international companies so you shouldn't have a problem. They will even supply a rental car if need be in some cities.
Good Luck! Welcome to America!

I believe you are confusing New Albany, Indiana with New Albany, Ohio. New Albany, Indiana is across the river from Louisville, Kentucky. New Albany, Ohio is an upscale, very affluent suburb of Columbus on the northeast side of the city.

I forgot about Westerville, probably because its on the other side of interstate 71. I think its closer to New Albany and I've personally never heard anything bad about it. It just skipped my mind, that's all. Maybe Westerville over say Hillard instead.

Ok,
All thanks for info again , now looking more at this which in all of your opinions is the best area and why? bearing in mind we like the westerville feel, community all the trees community etc... thats what i`m talking about :, dont want too much acres like a farm land , something like this type of neighborhood : City of Westerville, Ohio > Neighborhoods
with shopping centres like uptown Westerville too, reminds us of home (uk) you see.
In order of preference and why now we can disregarding the travel now that we have established travel from these locations will not be that long say max 1hr commute.
1.Powell,
2.Hilliard,
3.Upper
4.Arlington,
5.New Albany
6.Westerville
Thanks egerly awaiting responses on this .

Both Westerville & Hilliard have a range of housing, some areas are nicer than others - but overall both are nice communities. I'd say the school districts are similar with good schools, although the peformance index score on standardized tests in Hilliard is a little bit higher than in Westerville.
Upper Arlington probably has the best public schools in all of Central Ohio (top-notch) and a lot of older homes with character. If you have the money to spend, it is hard to go wrong with UA. Not to mention, UA is land-locked, so it isn't going through some of the growing pains that other areas are.
New Albany, Dublin & Powell are all upscale communities with mostly newer homes & very good schools. New Albany might be the most exclusive community in all of Central Ohio. Dublin has unbeatable amenites and Powell still retains somewhat of a semirural flavor.
Worthington is definitely worth a look as well. Good, well-respected schools and a charming downtown.
Good Luck!
