Sorry I missed this reply Alaskapat,

I live in north central Ohio about 40 mile west by southwest of Cleveland. The city of Lorain probably has the bigest problem with Hispanics in the whole state. Jobs up here are leaving in droves. This area seams to be thriving as a welfare state.

Now as for me and my DW we are looking at moveing to Oklahoma.

Never been to Oklahoma but I do know it has the largest percent of American Indians then any other state which is great. I use to love going to the Indian Dances they'd hold every summer there at the Lake in Cleveland. The Natives came from all over for the Pow Wow's. Have you checked out the job situation there? And isn't it reallllly hot there in the summer? LOL

Well we are looking into the eastern side of the state, in what they call "Green Country" around Muskogee. I was stationed a Ft Sill Oklahoma back in the early 80's and loved every day of it and miss Oklahoma and its people. And as far as jobs go? I can't think of a single state that there isn't a need for Construction Truck Drivers. I drive all sizes and types. I'm a retired Navy SeaBee, Heavy Equipment Operator. Everybody needs roads to drive on, right?

Oklahoma's a GREAT place to learn how to drive a truck; there wasn't that much I could run into around Drumright... (Actually, I really enjoyed my time in OK)

I really like Eastern Oklahoma, the rest of the state is too bare and ugly IMO. But the Ozarks in the east are really nice.

The illegal population in Ohio is not near as bad as some other states like Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and even some Midwest states like Illinois and Wisconsin. But it is growing. Esp in the larger metros like Columbus and Cleveland. Lorain has an extremely large hispanic population. I believe the hispanic population is Lorain is almost half the population, but that does not mean they are attomatically illegal.

They are here but keep a low profile.

Areas with a lot of Latinos are the Toledo area and countys around the Maumee River up in NW Ohio. There are a lot of migrant farmworkers up there, and Toledo has a Mexican barrio in the city.

Cleveland has some Puerto Rican, and Lorain has a long running Mexican community, dating from back in the 1920s.

Dayton has some Mexicans but they are not really at critical mass here yet to form their own neighborhoods. They are scattered, and there are really not that many compared to other places.

It seems Cincy has developed a concentration, though, in the Carthage area mentioned.

It seems latinos prefer the upper Midwest more than Ohio. You;ll find very large Latino communities in Milwaulkee, Chicago, Northern Indiana, and even in Detroit. About the closest Ohio gets to that is Toledo.

What's interesting about Toledo is that many of the Hispanics in town have roots going back a generation or two. I found that in Columbus virtually all Hispanics were post 1995 arrivals from Mexico.
