Red face Relocating to Akron area

My husband is getting a job in the Akron area (by the AKRON FULTON AIRPORT) and I was wondering if anyone could give some advice as to where is a nice (safe) place to rent an apartment? We are moving from the DC metro area (too many people, horrible traffic/commute, lots of crime). And we are originally from highland county in SW Ohio.
We would eventually like to buy a house, so could anyone recommend some nice towns?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated !

Portage Lakes is nice. Canal Fulton is my favorite. Or what about North Canton. All south of Akron, just like Fulton Airport is, and not a far drive.

The Manchester area, City of Green, Barberton, Norton, Canal Fulton, Tallmadge, all have nice areas. There are others as well. The Akron area has more good places than bad. You shouldn't have any problem finding what you are looking for.The pace of daily life should be an improvement over the hustle and bustle of the DC area.

What about apartments in the Copley/Fairlawn area? I've heard good things about the school district there. Anyone familiar with Fairway Park Luxury Apts? From Google maps, it appears there's a golf course on one side and a shopping center on the other. I've read elsewhere that most of the area is upscale, but some parts are shady. Anyone know about this neighborhood?
