All I know is what my Buddy always told me, and the Boat Store owner said to back him up about Youngstown.
YOU DONT STOP AT ANY REDLIGHTS AFTER 4PM, BECAUSE IF YOU DO, YOUR MOST LIKELY TO GET ROBBED OR CARJACKED IN YOUNGSTOWN!
So, I stay away from that town as much as possible, and only go through it, on the highways. Besides, my Buddy is dead now, so, theres no reason for me to stop there anymore.
May the LORD Bless each of you.
I wish you well...
Jesse

While, I don't go out of my way to go into Youngstown at night, I think what you're saying is a little extreme. I've driven in the city after 4pm many times without any issue. Most of the crime in the city is gang or drug related, with the occasional theft here and there like in many other towns.
As long as you mind your own business you're fine. Most of the time, that kind of element is too busy killing each other to waste their time with you. I'm not saying the place is a utopia, (far from it), but it ain't exactly South Central LA or anything like that.

Care to back this up?
I've never been to LA, so maybe their reputation isn't deserved either? Or, maybe they cleaned that area up a lot since this bad rep was given to them?

i went there for 2 weeks, and stayed with a friend. semi-noisy but definitely calmed down in terms of crime. Compton and richmond have Y-town beat pertaining to crime.

Ok, I just heard a rumor and wanted to check it out. I heard the last YSU President left because his house was shot up with an automatic machine gun. True or False?

I would have to say FALSE. That would be big news around here. I have never heard of anything getting shot up with automatic gunfire here.
David Sweet has been the president of YSU since 2000. He lives in Liberty. That is North of Youngstown, and is certainly not an area where that is even remotely possible.
Youngstown State University - President David C. Sweet
I'll go do some research now to see who the President was before him. It's tough to find something that doesn't exist though.
This is a YSU page with all past Presidents. They seem to stick around for a long time. http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/top...ate_University
I couldn't find anything bad about President Cochran, because it doesn't exist.

I remember that story, but the facts are a little messed up. According to the article, Sweet has been president since 2000 and I know he still is. Also, the gun involved was a .22 and he and his wife were out of town when it happened. Here's an article from January of 2008:" Vindy.com - BCI joins probe into shooting
